Am I imgaing things, or was this thread longer than it currently is.
I'm sure I read it this morning and someone was invited to post their reasons for returning to the UK and then not staying (I think EuroTramp posed the question).
If this is the case, what happened, why was the end deleted?

Whatever thread it was, it does seem to have disapppeared now.
Never seen someone's post deleted just because they posted in an old thread before?

I personally prefer to open up old threads again than to start a new one about the same topic. When I first decided to move back I read the last two or three years' worth of posts in this forum. The same topics came up time and time again in different threads. I believe the thread history is a great resource (especially if people would learn to use the search function) but it would be so much easier to find all the removals information (for example) in the same thread.
Anyway, I'm going way off topic here. What were we talking about?

It was definitely EuroTramp that posed the question why someone was returning to Canada after spending some time in the UK. Perhaps EuroTramp could enlighten us

Nope, it was this one...http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...=231513&page=2
Seems like dragging up an old thread is a crime these days.

I've been dealing with the bureaucracy in Vancouver recently, and yes, it does make me want to bang my head against the wall, and think "What the hell am I doing moving there??"
Then I deal with the tax office/call centres/helplines in the UK, bang my head against the wall and think "What the hell am I doing here??"
As someone else said on this forum, the grass is not greener, just a different colour...

Hi Seacreature
It is so refreshing to find other people who feel the same way I do about this place - Toronto !!!
Maybe we should all meet up and have a good old moan about how much we hate it ??? What do you think ?
Am leaving here next year come hell or highwater.

I don't regret coming here. My daughter and I have been in Canada (Victoria, BC) for just over a year and are now giving it up as a bad job, but we've had some great experiences and we're not sorry we came. Our reasons for moving back are:
1) Couldn't find decent paid jobs. I'm a qualified teacher but can't teach here. I have ended up in a low paid office job, despite 100s of job applications. We can't afford to pay the bills and haven't been to the dentist or optician for over a year, due to not being able to afford to.
2) Miss people in the UK a lot, especially my son and best friends.
3) Moving from a house to a small apartment was not fun.
4) Moving from living on the outskirts of a town in UK to living in a city was not easy.
We came here to be near my parents and because we thought we'd have a better life.... that hasn't happened, but it's been great to spend some quality time with my parents.
Basically, you have to decide what's really important in life and remember... the other man's grass is always greener, but only because he bought Astro turf!!!
I'm now looking forward to returning to the UK in January, although I will be jobless and homeless again... ah well...as long as I have my health and people I love near by...:-)

Just think in a few months time you'll be settled again with
a new found appreciation of the UK and you'll look
back on the move to Canada as a fantastic experience many
people never get to try............good luck
