Sorry guys....bad week taken out incorrectly on the boards.

Actually I just noticed this message posted today from Rete a Moderator .... jeez I thought I was being short with people.....and this from someone supposedly supporting the forum.
I guess I wasn't that bad !!!
Only kidding
Here It Goes ....Are your particularly dense or what? Perhaps your reading skills are neglible?
The OP lives in the United Kingdom (UK) and wants to migrate to the United States (US) through an H-1B. Was told that it would be easier to get an L-1 (intercompany transfer).
Now what don't you understand??????????????????????????????????

How would that work. Are you saying transfering from an L1 or
something?

No Offense Tangram, but this is a PUBLIC forum, therefore people have the right to say whatever they want on this thread within the rules!
Sorry if the thread has gone off your original topic, but this thread is for everyone to read, not just you.
Have a nice day and I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

This is the reason I was looking for some balance. I was not looking for a debate on how great or not Toronto is or not or from people who don't/haven't done exactly what is in the title of the thread. There are plenty of other threads to posts in if you want that and I have read and benefited from many of them - hence the reason my app has been submitted.
I'm looking for the flip side to remove those rose tinted glasses ok ?
I hope that is finally clear to all who wish to post. Thanks for the relevant posts so far they have been great.

Okay Tangram why do you want to go to Canada.
What do you want to get out of it.
What are you afraid of that you want people to reply in the answers you want to hear and not what they are saying?
Have you never lived overseas is that is what worrying you?
Where are you planning on living? Canada is a big country.
What is your job is it something you can transfer?

Have you never lived overseas is that is what worrying you? Yes and No it doesn't worry me...father already lives abroad.
Where are you planning on living? Canada is a big country. Ontario, NB, NS and yes , they are all big and diverse within themselves

having answered those, not sure that benefits getting OTHER peoples experiences of returning to the UK from Canada or regretting going but sticking it out, as I asked.
Like I said.... let's freeform if thats what people do and weigh in with whatever people have to offer.... off on a tangent included, but please lay off the attacking ( not by you but others ), I meant no offense and have apologised above and meant it.
Let's move on.
Paul.

As it is, I'd prefer to have a lousy job in Nova Scotia than a lousy job in Toronto. At least Nova Scotia is attractive, it's cheaper and the people are friendly.

I have been in Vancouver for 3 months now and have mostly regrets, after moving from London. Thankfully, I'm here on a work permit (although initially intended moving here permanently) and still have my house in London. Granted, people are much friendlier here, it's possible to live in a bigger house/apartment in a nice area etc. but this place is swamped by bureaucracy, everyone's always on strike. Telus is currently on strike, the truckers were on strike for several weeks, which resulted in a delay of my shipped goods from the UK arriving in Vancouver (they were languishing in Montreal). Many people here seem to be like robots / out of Stepford. Even when getting angry with them (eg. incompetent people from Telus), they do not respond or show emotion. Vancouverites are notoriously protective of their "wonderful" city and take the greatest offence about anything negative being said about it. Most of them have never been anywhere else!! They also seem rather ignorant of the rest of the world. Vancouver seems as if it's stuck in the 80's. It's very backward, most of the things one takes for granted in London are not available here, fashions are way out of date, shopping is non-existent. It is far from true to say that Canada has no crime. There is plenty of crime in Vancouver, with car theft being somewhat of a national sport! Drugs are a big problem here too. The number of homeless people is astounding for a 1st world country. England certainly has its problems but the grass is not greener here, and I cannot wait to go back! Although I've made friends here I feel that I have little in common with them and it's difficult for them to relate to me and where I'm coming from as many of them have never travelled and regard Vancouver as being the centre of the universe.

I wouldnt worry about the strike thing, its really not the norm, youve just been unlucky with your timing I think, although you arent the first person to have horror stories about Telus. There are other phone companies if they are that bad. I think call center operators are trained and trained and trained to avoid emotional responses, so thats no surprise to me. Yet another reason to hate call centers I guess.
Fashion is always regional. I'm sure the people of Vancouver consider London "fashion" to be a bit odd, so when in rome. Most canadians couldnt care less what you wear anyway. Civic pride is a big thing this side of the Atlantic, try going south of the border and criticising anything the Federal Government does! :scared:
It is ridiculous though to maintain that Vancouver is the center of the universe. Anyone who watches CTV or the CBC knows that that is Toronto

Ok, we have heard from people still in Canada. I wondered whether anyone has come back from Canada with views.... that might be an interesting slant.
All excited now as we booked our flights last night for next July to Canada..... three weeks away and can't wait... counting down the days already.
