Indeed. It's only 103 F on my patio there at the moment. Probably be 110 F by 17.00 hrs ! It's overcast and showery here.

It came with a baked spud and veggies and a pint of rather decent British type beer from the in-house micro brewery. It's called Ellis Island on Koval Lane, a block south of The Strip. It's right next door to a large but dumpy Super 8 motel. Not the flashiest joint in town but great value and what I thought was a really decent pint.
I usually go there when I have the misfortune to be in Vegas en route to wherever.

Ellis Island is a really good local Casino which is a short walk from the strip, down east Flamingo, great little place, imported bottled beer at bar always $1 a bottle, the coffee shop has great steaks as you say, and real good deals on everything on menu, the Hamburgers are great there too, hamburger & fries & beer $4 and as far as I know its still open, it was when I left anyway,
There are so many real great places that all locals know of, Casinos with real character, and real friendly people and staff, with out of this world food at prices under $10 for just about everything on menu,
Unfortunately most tourists dont know of these places, so they go to these real expensive Casinos on the South end of the strip, and pay 3 or 4 times more for exactly the same thing that tastes and looks no better then local Casino food, Just a little more lavish decor and surroundings, forget all that just give me great food at a great price!!!!!

Fish Im glad you found a nice place for a good steak in Vegas, so many choices, $26 though is kind of expensive,
Locals normally avoid the strip like the plage when they go out to eat, mostly cause of the high prices,
They prefer a smaller local Casino where the service is better and the people are more of a working middle class, and down to earth and more friendly,
and the gambling is normally better too, and you cant get lost in them like you can in a huge strip Casino,
My favorite place for a really excellent steak was the Gold Coast Casino, its on West Flamingo road just a mile from the strip, walking distance!!!! right across the road from the Palms Casino, ----- so my favorite at the Gold Coast was a nice big Sirloin Steak, on menu just before I left Vegas was $8.95 it came with a baked (jacket) potato & Veggies, and a nice ice cold glass of draft beer of your choice, ----- I would tip the waiter $2 and so for $11 for the whole meal including the tip aint at all bad is it?
There are lots of steaks on the menu, the Rib eye or new york was a couple of dollars more thats all, and always including the glass of beer :)
And you will not find a better steak anywhere, always a good cut of steak, always lean and always cooked just how you like it!!!! and always so very tender and so tasty straight from the open fire grill,
and the little walk back to the strip is nice too ;)

And if you want the absolute best and biggest prime rib in town and you have your car with you ---- then you just have to drive a few miles to North Las Vegas to Jerry,s Nugget ----- inside the casino everyone heads straight to the Jerry,s famous coffee shop and a 10 ounce prime rib with a big baked potatoe and choice of french bread or garlic bread, also choice of soup or salad included in the price of $7.85 or if your really hungry pay a couple dollars more and you get a huge 16 ounce that feels the entire plate, they have to bring the baked potato sour cream & butter on a separate plate,

Or if you prefer there Steak & shrimp special for $9.89 including choice of soup or salad, thats really great too,
You will not find a better meal (anywhere) on the strip, or better tasting!!!!
The service is fantastic and they have a huge selection of deserts & cakes & pies all baked on the premises along with all there bread,
They have a very large menu with every kind of entre that you can imagin, and all the prices are so inexpensive, a couple can dine out at Jerry,s Nugget for $30 and have a wonderful meal for two that would include desert and wine, and the prices are still the same as when I last ate there in November 2010 just before I came home.
Take care,
Rodney.

Rod I know you speak the truth, Ive known many people who lived in Vegas at one time or another and they all told me the same as you, go to the places that are used by locals, not the high priced tourist traps...

The prices you mentioned are far cheaper than here in Oregon...

I bet you like those British two for a fiver pub meals...

cheers, the problem isn't getting a Youtube account. It's that every time you post a link, you link to the email you received rather than to the file itself. So when we click your links, we get a message to log in to gmail. We can't watch the videos unless you link to them directly.

I stayed up late too - loved it!!! Very different, quirky, uniquely British!! James Bond and the Queen - can't get any more British than that. I loved the Opening part with the children's choirs from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The children singing "Danny Boy" on the Giant's Causeway moved me to tears. I think the Brits did a great job - so take that Mitt Romney - you a**hole!!

I may not be a big fan of Mitt but I think if there was a classic case of bulling it was over his remarks. He quoted from the news he had read but if people want to get you they will. I saw those comments in the news but I didn't see anyone take the media to task.
It amazes me that the media have so little talent. I take that back it doesn't amaze me.
I also loved the children's choirs bit. Well done!

cheers, from over here, the Mitt thing didn't seem like media bullying. People were really pissed at him and the media was just reflecting that. I was listening to Jeremy Vine and one housewife called in and said 'we don't need some big American weirdo coming in here with his stupid opinions.'

I think it was particularly galling for David Cameron, who was rolling out the red carpet for Romney, against his own personal preference for Obama, and who clearly felt slapped in the face. His retort was pretty funny though ("it must be pretty easy to organize the Olympics in the middle of nowhere").

Millions of people here took real offense at Romney's comments - not just the media.

Many of the British Newspapers have been scummy as long as I can remember, I credit much of that to Mr Murdoch, he set the bar low decades ago, he likes to stir the pot no matter what the personal cost is to innocent people, I see Murdoch as one of the worlds most powerful men, maybe the most powerful man on this earth, he controls media and puts negative thoughts in people's minds...

If Murdoch made money from reporting the truth he would not be a wealthy or powerful man.

I think Mitt was way out of his depth, he may know alot about making money but he is certainly not a people person, this was his chance to make a Great Impression and he screwed it up Royal, he also made Cameron look like a fool, Cameron would have been smart to keep his mouth shut and avoid getting dragged in to this...

Id like to know why Mitt was even visiting number 10 or meeting the head of MI6...

I posted on the Canadian forum how much I loved the opening ceremony as well, so well done and proud of Britain. When I watched the live opening ceremony in Canada they had the tribute but in the one they edited later they (I think because I don't remember seeing it) also left it out. I had no idea at the time what it was a tribute to and just thought it was for people in audiance who lost loved ones who were going to be at the ceremonies, now it makes so much more sense. I also loved the fact that the opening hymns and songs were our favourite hymns and songs and not having to be politically correct about singing "Jerusalem" which always brings a tear to my eyes! So English!

I had no idea they were cutting the show, thats not good...

Huhhhhhhhhhh we send 530 athletes to the UK and focus on ONE or Two, that's just typical of American TV, how would you like to be one of the others that has worked just as hard as Phelps, Heck his mother even gets an interview, the other poor athletes dont get any recognition or promotion...

I have no problem with Phelps, in a way I feel for him as the Media have caused him much unnecessary pressure.

I love that we showed Mitt that, not only were we ready, but that we could blow his tiny mind  I'd love to have seen his face during the dancing NHS nurses and Lord only knows what he made of the Arctic Monkeys.

I watched the whole thing on BBC from 9pm till 1am, on the whole I think that we did a fantastic Job and all us British should be proud of that opening ceremony,
Although parts of it were for me hard to understand, lots of it I was scratching my head not having a clue what they were doing, the sound of the music was not clear, the acoustics not good, but that kind of came in handy at the end when that ageing ex- Beetle McCartney painfully tried to sing his 44 year old song Hey Jude, ------ you could hardly hear him and we had the telly way high, OMG he was so bad, he really needs to just give it up, cant even imagine what was going through the organizers minds when all they could come up with was him
The raising of the torches at the end I thought was absolutely amazing,
And the fire work display right at the end was as good as any that I have seen on the strip in Vegas on July 4th and New Years Eve over the years.
I loved the NHS tribute, just loved it!!!!
For a whole four hour show I thought they did one hell of a Job, 4 hours is a long time to run a show, and they ran it so well, there was always something good to watch throughout.

We watched a similar four hours of the American Olympics on NBC that apparently are being held in London England! With the voice overs muted (a lot) we enjoyed it. I think McCartney was his usual over confident self until he looked out at the crowd and choked when he started to sing. Never recovered. Should have mimed it. Just an opinion...

It was so nice to see Rebecca Adlington get a bronze medal in Swimming, I was told she that never expected a medal today, Rebecca is from Mansfield my wife's home town, we were so thrilled for her.

It was also nice to see NBC do a small piece on her tonight, we were quite touched.

I'm not much of a sports person but with the Olympics being set in the UK this year it makes it very easy for me to tune in, Infact I've not watched anything else since Friday night.

I really enjoyed watching the Mens and Womans cycling, England looked lovely even with rain today, its looks so beautiful, I'm so proud of the old Country, its just makes me want to go home that much more.

They're due in shortly after 6am local time, the ship leaves for Hamburg at 4:30pm tomorrow afternoon, I'm hoping it's still light enough to get a look at her as she passes through the Strait of Dover tomorrow night.
