Problem is that everthing and everbody in the UK has moved on and I have moved on with my life in the US for the past 10 yrs. So I don't know if I could settle back there, I just don't know. We think that when my hubby retires we will have to go back as it is too expensive to live here. OK if you have a job, money, health care, good health, but once you start to need regular mediciations or have a major health problem that's when the sh*t hits the fan. |

All we're saying is think about the life that you would be leaving behind before you try to jump into a new one. :) |

just registered for the site and I had a quick review of the site. As with many people I'm very interested in moving over to the US. Right now it looks nigh on impossible, however, many of you have managed to do it, so it must be achievable. In terms of career and education, currently involved with Marketing/Sales of IT products, approx 10 years experience in business since Uni. From my research, the only method I can realistically see an an option is for a US employer to employ me.....so advice from any of you out there that have went down this road is much appreciated. Cheers, Dave I take it you've read the sticky post at the top of this forum about legal routes to immigrating to the US. If you think H-1B is your route, you'd better be really, really talented and successful in sales and marketing. Also, I may be mistaken but if you want an H-1B, your degree better be related to marketing or sales otherwise give up on that route right now. You might want to ask yourself why you want to live and work in the US? If you think life in the UK is bad, life in the US is not a bed of roses by any means. Have you traveled much in the US? Any regions, states or cities take your fancy? NC Penguin |

How long you been over there for? I think how you like this place depends a lot on attitude. I've lived in both CO for about a year, and CA now for about 4 1/2 months. I think for me, the first time I was over was rocky, it was to study and whilst I enjoyed it I was also looking forward to coming home for lots of reasons. I doubt with that sort of 'grounding' I'd be enjoying it in CA as much as I am now. I'll have a look, as there seem to be a few unhappy campers on this site.... does anyone not regret moving over....come on now don't be shy It is an enormous culture shock. Suggest you read back through the threads for about a month or so, that should give you a reasonable insight to how Brits really feel about everyday life here. |

NC Penguin I don't dislike live in the UK, I've got a good standard of living, I hate the weather though...the pissing rain, does become rather tiresome.. Spend some time travelling though US whilst at Uni and I've been to a few cities on business - do I know what it's like to live in the US? Can't say that I do, however, I'd like to give it a go. Having moved around a bit since Uni, live is not easy when you move away, however, whether I am in Northampton. London,. Manchester or Newcastle - whilst not the same as moving to the US, there are some parallels, in that you have to make new friends etc. Being an avid golfer, I would prefer the Southern states, one would have to go where the job was though... |

It's kind of weird, you can get straight in if you are a Cuban "refugee" but not if you are a Cuban cigar. As others have said - either get your company to transfer you here or marry a Yank, or make so much money you can buy a business here and employ Yanks. |
