Missing home!!!

Oh my goodness, look at us going all off-topic and talking about homesickness and careers and relationship, and meanwhile 'Lollygaggers' is being put into pre-production with Renee Zellweger, Madonna and Kevin Costner as the British leads.
Right, so Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman are taken (Jemima55, I'll always hear your posts in an Emma Thompson voice from now on!).
I think I'll give Sophie Ellis-Bexter her acting debut as 'Moshi Moshi/Los Angeles'. We're the same age and share the same unfortunate face-shape (even though she's also got big eyes, big lips and cheekbones; I don't). For my later scenes, which will be set in a mental asylum, I will be played by Helena Bonham Cartner at her most demented.
Since Alan Rickman has already been nabbed, I'll nominate Noah Wyle to play my husband. I know he's American, but don't worry -- it's a non-speaking part. Again, the resemblance is tenuous, but Noah did well faffing around with equations and generally questioning the fabric of reality in 'Donne Darko', and that's right on the money for my husband.

Dh can be played by a ghost, he's always at work or asleep.
My kids will be a couple of the lads from the inbetweeners and Dd can be played by some cute little child star

You`ve all got me worried with your non speaking husbands, that`s the last thing mine is, although he is often absent! Also, wild hair is going to be a big feature what with Helena Bonham Carter and Minnie Driver sharing the same scene. Better get a wide angle lens.I love the idea of the kids played by the "Inbetweeners". I`m sure you`ve noticed how American censorship means there is very little dialogue left sometimes, and sometimes our more obscure words slip through the net.
I would like Sean Bean for my next door neighbour so I could watch him mowing the lawn in summer (another non speaking part).

If you peeps are missing British TV, you can download BBC I Player. Russell Brant actually thanked the BBC on Tv the other day for enabling him to watch brit tv in the USA. If you google 'Expat Shield' you can then download all the software and literally within 10 mins you have all the BBC channels!! They are a day late - but who cares if it get you away from crap American (and in my case crap Canadian) tv!!
Might help a little bit! I hear you all on the homesicness, i, after 2 years am still very confused! I too am a stay at home mum and don't really talk to anybody all day! I throw myself into going to the gym in the day and the demon wine at night!!
Not great, but it gets me through! I have days where i am ok with it all and others when i am just in floods all day!

I think that sounds like a good plan to me!!!!
Im not going to say another word about the move and because we had planned this move as only temporary i just thought well i will try and make the most of it whilst im out here!! I will talk to my husband tonight again tell him how i feel and lets just see how it goes from there! I think he just completely shocked me last night when he said he had applied for work in San Diego!!!
And yes i would return to the uk without him!!!!!! Ive spent to many years feeling un happy!!

Wonder how are our missing home movie cast doing?
I am hanging in here, been busy sorting out the crazily and unnecessarily complicated tax returns here. My god, I would gladly pay council tax when we move back to UK, the state tax here is ridiculous and paperwork-crazed.
Sorry I have to rant here - I don't where I could say this without sounding biased. But all the lawyers and tax professionals I've dealt with here have no manners (now I sound like my gran!), if you politely ask them 4 things, they would only give you a 2-line reply and only answer only half. It's as if they have ADD, they can't read long emails, not to mention, the tone is curt and borderline rude. Hello? I'm paying and they are supposed to be the professionals!
Anyway, just need to get it out
Sorry!

Oh dear, oh dear, I sense stress! I am hoping the idea of us having to fill in US and UK tax forms ever after is one of those reasons not to stay here! We deal with a local firm of tax lawyers and havent had any aggro from them, they just seem to make sense of whatever we give them. Anyway its not my favourite time of year either (tax time).Commiserations, eat chocolate, have a cuppa, anything that gets you through,
Love,
Jemima, aka Emma Thompsonalike, and thanks for remembering our film. It`s good when others have the same odd sense of humour!

She's very sweet really. But I'd trade it all for a good housing market in which to sell up and move.

Btw, I am following "Lie To Me" with Tim Roth on tv here, at least he's playing a Brit there and there's PG tips in his house, good details

Hello, I've just been dealing with our [unladylike expletives here] tax this morning! There must be something in the air. Or a deadline approaching...
Trying to understand all the non-resident alien, tax treaties, joint or single filing blah blah blah has driven me cr
zy, and I've given in and asked our local H&R Block to do it. We have to get it done properly, because -- and this is the best part -- we're also going to have to incorporate it with our 2010 return due in Germany, since we lived there until September.
I've found H&R Block very helpful and competent so far, Winterbird, but I'm probably inclined to favour America -- it's so much worse in Germany, where the tax info is even more madly complicated, full of 25-letter compound words that even Google translate can't understand, and it costs an absolute fortune to use a 'Steuerberater' (tax accountant or what-have-you).
(The only thing cheering me up today is remembering how we found our German 'Steuerberater' -- he was advertising on an expat website there, and they made a really really unfortunate typo on his name, in very big flashy letters. He's called Knut. Har har har.)

Yeah, I wonder if Tim Roth suggested it! It is a plus that he speaks in his own accent ! I am currently having a "Dibleyfest" since my sister sent me the boxed set. They are just as good 10 years later. My one current tv programme, since my son watches it, is "Traffic Lights" with Kris Marshall from "My Family" who also does his own accent.

Definitely cannot get paid job with H4, I have never heard of grade upland increase, so can't help you with that.
. Technically, if you are qualify for H1b, then you can apply for jobs and ask the company to sponsor you to switch to h1b, but it's kind of difficult in the current economy. And yes, h1b requires a balchelor's degree at least.
I know, you can study, if you switch to F1 visa when you study, then that could lead to a work permit afterwards.
Actually just had a similar discussion with hubby the other night, he said maybe I can find someone to sponsor me a H1b I told him i don't mind doing some temp job here if they let me, but I don't want to go through to whole 9 yard to find a sponsor and start a career here - cos aren't we supposed to plan to go back in a year????

Maybe you can tell you can tell him that if you get caught working on a H4 visa, then his H1b visa will be revoked too!

They can be quite strict with h1b, a London colleague just got his h1b application rejected, cos the company didn't realise he dropped out of university (even though he's head of IT in the London office), now they have to keep him in the London office longer and then make a L1 visa instead.
