Another person living in a paralel universe...

Re: Another person living in a paralel universe...
well I have to own up and admit here that we quite enjoy a barbie or two! did in the UK too when the sun was shining. we use ours a couple of times a week for family meals and, ok, they can get a bit samey for gatherings but it's more about the company for me. plus I enjoy casual dining (because i am a hopeless cook, dinner parties scare the life out of me whereas barbies are far more manageable!)
having said that, if that was my only form of entertainment i would get really bored of it too. we eat out a fair bit and i also enjoy my girls' nights out and we have a pretty varied social life.
in fact, we're having a barbie this weekend - friends and neighbours ... anyone want to come?!

That's if you're LUCKY! If not, you're more likely to get stuff that's COMPLETELY inedible.
A colleague of mine paid $12.90 for a sandwich yesterday (would you believe) and it contained rocket (which is a sort of weed that grows between the cracks in concrete paths), spinach, salami, one huge but very OLD (decomposing) looking slice of tomato, and quite a lot of that disgusting green stuff the aussies seem to adore (sorry can't remember what it is called right now).

Another plus is their staff. Most helpful i have found anywhere. I think due to a predominently more mature workforce!
I asked a middle aged guy if they sold kaffir limes leaves (i was making my own thai curry... see i dont have ready meals EVERYDAY ) He had never hear dof them. I said not to worry i will make it without them. 5mins later he came running after my scooter holding up a jar of dried ones. He had made it his business to go find out what they were AND find it for me.
So they deffo get my vote for helpful staff.

When David Jones moved to a new store in Adelaide CBD going back a few years ago, there was a fair bit of talk about M&S moving into their old store. Never happened though obviously.

There's always talk about one or other of the UK guys coming here. Never comes to anything thank god. They'd still sell the same stuff as Coles and Woolies and probably at the same prices anyway. It's not like they are going to get stuff cheaper here being as where it is in the world.

Not sure really. As I said Tesco have already established a decent presence in Asia and with their sheer size I reckon if they did move into Australia they would do so in a BIG way and set up massive distribution centres and source products from all over the world, particularly Asia.
They might possibly start smallish (as they are doing right now in USA) but pretty soon it would be massive Tesco Extra stores all over the place, just like in UK.
