Yeah and where do they get the money? oh taxes, that's right.;)

We'll all pay higer taxes in the next 20-50 yrs, and Britain is not alone in having a declining birth rate. Luckily Britain has enough incentives to pay high financial/legal type salaries. What's Australia going to do in 50yrs? It'll have an ageing population, no water, and precious few assets as they will have all been sold by then and a brain drain. Where will the higher taxes come from, with no regional leverage?

This is correct. All of it and what is worse that our friendly poster from Rugby does not seem to get any of it, water being a huge problem .taxes most definetly and ours are high anyway and this will not get any easier as time goes on.

You offered the raising of the Australian retirement age as a critique of Australia, which is fair enough. I replied that the British already have done this. Your point is therefore: Australia raising the retirement age to 67 is bad, and makes it as bad as Britain. Again, making the case that the Australian retirement age might be as bad as the British one is hardly conducive to your case that life in Britain is superior. Britain is a good place to live, and I have argued this relentlessly on here. But trends indicate that long-term things will change.

Tableland, it seems to me that you need to reassure yourself endlessly about your move to Australia, by bringing up page after page of research and statistics, which, in your mind, prove that Australia is the better place to live. Relax, you will be fine there. It's a great place to live, and you know what, it is possible to love living in both the UK and Australia. I do.

This is a nice reverse spin on my original post to you in which I mentioned you seem to need your decision to leave Australia reinforced. Any statistics that I put on here are all in response to posters running Australia down for the purposes of reinforcing their decision to return to the UK. I have lived in both countries, and have constant family contact with both countries, and am consequently more than well acquainted with the facts and figures and the realities. On a digression, it is interesting how when people are presented with facts they don't like, they invariably end up saying " bloody statistics are useless..."

This is rather rich coming from you. Even the most cursory glance through your posts reveals a a pretty motley catalogue of Australia-bashing. Just on this thread you have criticised Medicare, Australian dental care, police funding, teacher shortages, corruption, teenage pregancies, drink driving, drugs, traffic congestion, crime, litter, vandalism. At the same time, we've also been treated to a whistle-stop sepia-toned Bluebirds & Cheery Dungaree-wearing Badgers tour of British National Trust parks. Hardly unbiased.

I was amused to read in a post of yours a few days ago about how I have sometimes backed up people I have also criticised. The alternative to this is mindlessly criticising people because of who they are, rather than what they say. People of a certain intelligence are able to understand that you can agree with a person one day, and not the next. But presumably, once someone has upset HiddenPaw, they're subjcted to a sort of cyber-space vendetta?

I suspect the difference between me and you is that if you were to write something I agreed with I would say so - and - back you up. From your post it seems you are not too familar with this concept.

Didn't Australian customs make their biggest ecstasy haul ever this week? Something like enough to make 11 million tablets? Must have been for all the Poms to take.

Ha ha, I knew one of you would say something about all the Aussie drug takers in the UK etc. How predictable! I agree with you (for once!) I think it is terrible, but it seems rife here, and they are not hard core drug takers, better described as recreational. As for finding cocaine on toilet seats in clubs perth, I am sure some people do take it there (never doubted it) but I don't know anyone who does it, the only whispers I have heard is of high income earners like footballers doing it because it is so expensive in Perth. I am glad the police are stopping ecstacy getting into Australia, shows they are doing their job. Can't remember reading about any big drug busts here and the drugs are easy to get here.

.

What a bizarre interpretation of my posts. Show me again where I criticised Australia. Go on, please. Or are you referring to the posts where I pointed out that Australia has issues in the same areas as the UK?! I suspect you are, but it fits your profile of me to think that I loathe all things Australian.

Are you denying that the things you listed exist in Australian society? If you are denying it, well, you're a lost cause. If you agree they exist, I guess that must make you as critical about the place as me. :p

Is this a joke?

Ecstacy is one of the most rife drugs in Australia.
