What's happening in Bahrain lately?`

Actually I don't know where that particular place is. As long as it is Janabiya you should be okay though. It's still the green zone (I think).

We live in Janabiyah - you're away from the trouble but will hear a few noises on a daily basis. It covers a fairly wide space though so much of it will depend on whether you're downwind (seriously, it's a consideration now!) and exactly which part you're in. I can't think of a Nahkeel compound around there, the only two I know of are in Janusan, near Barbar and one by St Christophers in Saraya. If it's the one by St Chris you're definitely in a good spot and in a new compound too. Anyway, welcome to Bahrain, I hope you guys are all happy here and it works out well for you.

Its on Road 7906 - a big palace being built next door as far as I understand it.
Thanks all -I appreciate all advice and help we have had to get us this far.
Just cant wait to finish work, finish getting this house sorted here and getting out of the UK - its been a long 12 months getting to this stage.

Funny but I cant find road 7906 on any of my Bahrain maps or on google.
If its by the Brit school then its Jasra rather than Janibiya but thats a good place to be.

Interesting as always!
Well we arrive on Thursday, lock stock and 3 kids. We have thought and thought about the safety and are aware of the difficulties especially with a 15 year old boy but to be honest drugs, alcohol and grotty women are a danger to every teenage boy wherever in the world you live arent they?
As some have pointed out the UK is hardly the wonderful place it used to be (was it ever?), no prospect of employment, crappy wages, education system going down the pan, redundancies, crime and general unrest all on the increase and no sign of it getting better any time soon.
So we will take our chances with our eyes open and an escape plan in place - see you next week!!

Manama is, or at least was alright, I left a few months ago. Got bored.
But to respond to a previous post about graffiti etc, one of my Bahraini friends told me about 15-20 years ago, the kids used to go around and smash up saudi cars on weekends.

Now it appears that all us Bahraini expats have become accustomed to tear gas, roads blocked by buring tyres, driving over debris in the road ( 2 new tyres needed for the Rangey this weekend) thanks very much disloyal ones and I often hear the phrase that everything is in fact "normal"
Well this weekend my OH was tear gassed 3 times in Saar and came home with that lovely smell on her clothes, 2 of my tyres got trashed as mentioned and a local women was hit in the head with an iron bar being thrown by the disloyals so I am again questioning what is "normal"
Link to a loyalist facebook page attached. yes the rhetoric is a little biaised but the pictures are real

Of course if you live in Riffa, Amwaj or Juffair none of this is real and we are all whinging expats

Ja I am working in Sitra this afternoon and there are loads of police up by the mall and the helicopter overhead
Of course being an expat, I am immune to tear gas the protestors will not throw anything sharp or heavy at me or so say the long term expats who are ****ing blind and stupid
Hadnt heard that Juffair had kicked off so bad

4.15 pm leaving Sitra Industrial North and drove round a bend straight into riot at the back of police line. Officer with shotgun pointed at my head from 3 metres away panicking (obviously thinking I was one of the disloyal sneaking up from behind. Stand off for a few seconds that seemed like eternity before being ushered away by another officer
This was the final straw and it looks like its game over for the Tockalosh family in Bahrain.

Re: What's happening in Bahrain lately?`
well it was a step up from normal run of the mill shit and thankfully I am very white with not a hint of Persian which may have bought the extra seconds for the officer to think before pulling the trigger but I am deeply regretting having window tint on the car windows.
Straw and camels back though.
Of course the Amwaj brigade will say its just a lack of moral fibre but I think I can leave Bahrain to the smoggies and Persians quite happily

To be honest I fail to understand why anyone would stay in Bahrain now unless they have no chance of getting a job somewhere else in the world, or they are earning sufficient to counteract the risk of the situation blowing up big time and of course the inconveniences of oil on the roads and teargas.
I just met with someone from your compound this afternoon who was telling me that although things seem 'quiet' and 'normal' (define it as you like) there are a lot fewer saudis coming across the bridge and the shopping malls are getting emptier by the day. In the long run this cannot possibly be sustainable, eventually shops will start shutting down and gradually companies will start pulling out. And it's not like one of the sides in the conflict are going to back down is it...

I could live with the shit until the shotgun incident today and then it suddenly brings home the fact that some things are just not worth living with. If the windows had been a touch darker, if the officer had thought he had seen a threat etc etc then squeeze the trigger and the inside of the Toyota would have been a nice shade of Tockalosh red and morale would not have been good
There was a short influx of Saudis after the Ramadan Eid but they have pretty much dried up now. Only the hardcore lol
Rangey will be going to Bebehani for a price on Thursday then we can explore opportunities as they say

Their is a lot of trouble out their at the moment, one of my employees said to me earlier, that the police have been shooting at cars and that Sitra is like a war zone with loads of people injured..... I hope it is not that bad, but Bahrain is becoming a pain in the arse for my conscience and my sanity.
At least you got out of Sitra today Tock, and you cant say I didnt warn you today
As Norsk says ( by the beach in Dubai ) what is peoples threshold to when enough is enough, and business is definitely getting worse and worse that is for sure. Lets hope Tock it was a one off, stay safe mate.
