The first and second paragraph, while trying to be different, still managed to make it sound shit.

We stayed in a golf resort near Cov a few years ago called Marriott Forest of Arden after the T20 finals at Edgbaston. I missed breakfast due to a rancid hangover but did stroll to the halfway hut on the golf course for a bacon sarnie before the drive home only to be in a queue behind about 16 blokes exactly as described above. Give me doddering septuagenarian members at my club any day of the week

I'd rather have neither and just play with mates to be honest.

I’m going to take up golf as soon as I leave Dubai. My plan is to join a club full of old gits still victorious in their brexit vote. Looking forward to it to be honest.

I stopped playing for a long time, just getting back into it now and loving it again. 4 hours with buddies, chatting about all sorts, outdoors in the sunshine and no only terrible golf as a distraction.

I do know though that UK clubs with the old guard can be so awfully run that it turns off so many younger players.

I knew, eventually, we’d find something to agree on, Scamp..

I had the misfortune of joining them for a couple of outings. Full of guys who came out with a great job, great package etc, but now RE agents and Financial Advisers, wife and kids left them etc BUT they’ll never admit defeat and return to Engurrland.

Can’t get a round finished without someone asking for any leads you might be able to push their way..

Funny as f**k, or depressing as f**k.. Depends on how you look at it..

I pissed myself!!

Desperate to monetize, the admin will jump on any ‘poor little Brit’ story, get the group to club together to help the guy out, then whore the story to the media here, for some positive marketing. Last guy they did it to, wee Malky, was a guy I knew, and I tried to warn them it was a con. Didn’t listen, got blocked, and Malky gets a pay day thanks to the guys appetite for some advertising.

Probably now introduced secret handshakes and have additional admins called lieutenants, or some other BS.

it’s a prime example of the worst of Grate Britain..

The stories I could tell you…

Was he the guy shacked up in a bed space with his filipina girlfriend? A lot of people seemingly down on their luck, or at least making terrible life decisions, in there though.

To be fair, I've found them to be quite helpful several times. Although I would avoid any golf day and trying to drift the buggies.

Spot on.
The advice on this forum in my early years was always very simple and clear, if it goes tits up or you're struggling, don't stay. I still have that feeling of transience about the place and am under no illusions that if we both lost our jobs or whatever, we would ride it out for a short period before cutting loose and going.

The last thing I need to be looking at is a circle-jerk of ****tards. That goes for several of the 'Brits in Dubai' type FB groups. Partly why I've zinged the app and never go on it anymore.

The hanging on until it’s taken everything it gave you is not limited to high-paid Brits. I know of many other nationalities that are chasing the dream that will never come again and should return home. And everyone who returns home says they love it.
