She isn't going to get skin cancer from sunbathing a week out of the year.

Glad to hear that. I will tell the widow of a friend back home who did just that, he died from skin cancer when merely sunbathing once a year.

Tell me about it.. I can't sunbathe because if I do I have a big chance of getting skin cancer due to a massive scar on my back, which apparently is a extra high risk in getting it

skin cancer can develop from a childhood incident in the sun, a bad case of sun burn only the once can lead to melanoma in later life. That's what has happened with my Dad (allegedly)

yes so basically if we are well protected and avoid getting badly burnt then we should be ok, but there are rules with cancer as we all know.

People die in car crashes all the time. Then there's plane crashes. People never smoke but develop lung cancer. People die from food poisoning. People in Ireland get skin cancer.

By your reckoning I should avoid driving, avoid flights, avoid eating, avoid going outside and whatever you have it.

As it is, the odds are that a British woman visiting a hot and sunny country for a week once a year developing skin cancer is incredibly low. It's incredibly foolhardy to spend most of your days outside in a place like Dubai or Australia and use next to no protection and for years on end, but for a brief vacation, slathered with sun block, the risks of skin cancer is very, very low.
