yes
but it depend in which hospital, the salary in public hospital such as Al Jimi and Twam are higher

Are any of you guys on the MCO contract, or married to someone that is?
What are the general impression from these guys of working there?
I read early on in the thread that most of them live at the Hilton, is that still the case?

I'm currently living in Riyadh, so Al Ain will surely be a step up from a nightlife perspective.... but reading this forum makes me think I might be the only single person in the whole place... say it isn't so!!

thanks muchly (from another Aussie!)

Damo.
Hey, Blue Cat was right... I am another of the MCO type. I've been on site for a little more than a month and in a villa. I have some current info on lots of things relating to moving to Al Ain so PM away if needed.

Hi all, haven't posted since before Christmas, as we have desperately been trying to secure accommodation. My husband is out there now, and has been for the last three weeks. I get to see him next week, and we all fly out on the 4th Feb....to start our new lives !Kids have both got places at AAESS, thank god, and we are looking at villas in Zakher. Currently using agents called Ibrahim and Jamal. However, we are finding that the nice places are now 170,000AED to rent ! Which is 20,000 above our budget. Please let me know if anyone knows of anywhere else. We will be living at the Intercon in a villa for a month, so we have got a little time. how long does it take from seeing a villa, and signing contracts, to being able to move in ?? Loook forward to hearing from you all. You have all helped so much with what will be a MASSIVE move for me and my family, but my husband tells me we'll love it, so I'm sure we will ! Look forward to hearing from you xx

While you are moving into Al Ain, we are busy moving out! Very sadly, I must admit. You ask the question how long will it all take once you have secured the villa? One piece of advice I can give, if the villa is still being built and they tell you that it will be ready by the end of the month, please ask which month they are talking about! The building and finishing off process takes soooo long here - we lost a villa when we first arrived in Al Ain because it wasn't ready to move into, even after waiting three months after the date given. And, the last time I drove by that same villa (about two months ago) it was still not finished. This after about ten months!

Our villa which is paid for by the company, is leased until the end of May. I know that no-one is being put into the villa, but I hear that the owner now wants the future rent to be 170 000 AED - it was 125 000AED when we moved in June last year. Shows how greedy the landlords are right now. And just please be aware that after the rent is paid, you have absolutely no comeback whatsoever!

Another piece of advice I would like to give - if at all possible don't move into a brand new villa. I know that it's a good idea at the time, but there are just so many teething problems with new villas - and nobody is remotely interested when things go wrong! We have a toilet downstairs that literally hasn't worked since we moved in.

Sorry to sound a bit negative, but I do think you should be aware of things like the above, nobody tells you these things until it's too late.

Good luck with the hunt and the move.

No guarantees though Sorry to hear you're leaving x Good luck with everything. Can you give me some advice on the best place to buy furniture (are having ours shiped over, but will need more), best value for money places to eat, best places to hire a car and where to hire a maid from ? thank you so much

Furniture is not such a difficult one, there are places like Home Centre, Homes R Us, Pan Furnishers. I haven't really found great places here to eat, except for Trader Vics at Rotana Hotel, they are more expensive than the rest but are by far the nicest restaurant. The company hired my husband's car from Europcar, they aren't too bad and their service is very good. Maids are difficult. To sponsor a maid is very expensive and you are basically stuck with her. And that maid is only supposed to work for the family who sponsors her. So you will have to work something out by word of mouth when you get here.

But when you do arrive in Al Ain, there is a coffee morning on Tuesdays from about 10 am at Cosi in Al Jimi Mall. There is a whole group of girls who meet there and if you come along and introduce yourself, I know that they'll help you with any and all questions that you have.

Hope that puts some of your worries to bed.

Baggiesmom,
I just moved into a villa in Zakher and wouldn't be surprised if you looked at the house next to mine. If you are having trouble finding a place use as many agents as it takes. I went through three or four. If you want my landlord's # I can provide it as the villa next door is unoccupied. I don't know if he will rent it for less than 170 but at least there won't be a 7% fee. It has been vacant for a while so maybe you can strike a bargain! One positive is that my landlord has been super responsive to our maintenance issues. We had some things go wrong our first two days in the house and he came by every few hours to ensure that they were being fixed.

Europcar might be the best bet in Al Ain, or Al Ghazell.

All of my furniture came from Homes R Us. They seem the cheapest and the quality is decent.

Good luck!

Hi Aikman (sorry don't know your real name !)

thank you for the advice, and if you can let me have your landlords nr that would be fantastic. as the weekend starts tomorrow, my husband is going to look at some more villas. Are you able to PM me ?

We will also be living at the Intercon for a month, while we wait for our furniture to arrive. We are staying in one of the villas in it's grounds. I am so looking forward to coming to Al Ain, everyone seems so friendly, and I can't wait to make a fresh start !

Thank you again for all your help. It really is appreciated

Hi Blue Cat. My husband is working on the new mall project, as a cost manager, and their client is Aldar. The company he works for is BWS who are cost consultants....worth a try ?

Hi folks,

I am new to this forum and would like to hear from anyone working at Horizon Flight Academy to discuss how they went about finding accommodation in Al Ain or Buraimi as I may be offered a job there soon. Also, does anyone here know what a decent two bedroom apartment or villa would cost to rent?

Many thanks!

We are in the process of packing up and leaving Al Ain and I have a few items of furniture for sale:

dining room table and six chairs;
single bed and bedside console;
Bosch gas stove.

If there is anyone who is interested, please send me a pm and I'll get back to you.
