Re: Living in Al Ain
Hi again,
Thanks to those who replied.. do I take it that living across the boarder in Buraimi is gonna be roughing it a bit? lol A friend of mine is currently staying at the Hilton looking for accommodation and suggested Buraimi may be worth a punt as it's cheaper than Al Ain and open to us once UAE residency status is issued... but is it a doghole?
Cheers.

Re: Living in Al Ain
Hi all,
Larnie, I thought you'd left Al Ain ages ago, are you back ?!
Can anyone tell me whether we will be able to rent a car without a credit card ? If so, can anyone suggest a good place to start looking ?
Also, what happens with receiving post ? We'll be living inthe intercon for a month, but after that will have our own place in Zakher. Can you also let me know how long it takes to get post back to Britain ?
Sorry, lots of questions xxx Thanks in anticipation !!

We had our mail delivered to the Intercon whilst we lived there then got a P O Box. It's easy just need to fill in a form and have it signed by your husband then take it and a copy of his passport and visa into the PO and voila you have a PO Box. The PO is opposite the clock at the top of Main Street.
Not sure about postal times to Britain, sorry but generally speaking post is slow. It took 3 days for post from Dubai and AD.

Welcome to Al Ain and working for Horizon, We have met Officer Hayat who is over Marketing and a Flight Safety Officer. What will you be doing for them?
My husband is next door, well his company is. He flies for MidEX airlines. Is it just you moving or do you have family in tow ? I found out there is apartments available across the street from our current villa. Very cute. We know a nurse who lives in there. PM me your number and I can follow up for you. We think the rent is somewhere around 70ish ? But if you want, we can find out for you. Also, just PM me your number. I wanted to try to get everyone here in AL Ain together for either lunch or an evening out so we can all meet. Quiz Night at the Rugby Club is my fav thing to do right now, yes i live such an exotic expat life LOL. so if anyone is interested in tomorrow night. It is a good way to get to know everyone and we could all meet early before quiz starts at 8 so Just let me know. Email me at [email protected]

Re: Living in Al Ain
Hello,
I have been reading through the posts and have finally decided to "log in." My husband has accepted a position in Al Ain, and will be starting there 1 March. I am staying stateside so that my four year-old can finish the school year. I read that Aikman7981 looking at the AAESS School and wantd to enquire further.
I have heard mixed reviews of the school and was hoping to hear the thoughts of anyone who had a child in attendance or was there researching the school first hand. We visited Al Ain briefly at the end of November, and stopped by the school. We did not get to tour the facility due to not setting an appointment. It all seemed rather chaotic, but in their defense it was the day before they were out for a break. Does anyone have any knowledge they can offer?
We stopped by another school, Al Ain American School, and were warmly welcomed by the Principal. We were even able to tour the facility without an appointment. The facility was very nice and located across from the large hospital. It is also close to the Palm Sports Resort. Has anyone heard of or had experiences with this school?
The final school was found on the Australian Embassy website, Al Ain Juniors School (British curriculum). I tried to email them but it popped back to me (could be clue #1). Any news on this school?
Sorry to have posted a book, but thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Re: Living in Al Ain
We are still looking at schools and undecided. Its just so expensive for all of them (esp. AAESS). I'm curious to hear about the American school and the Juniors school. I think someone mentioned a school called Manor House at some point, anyone have any info? Ugh.

Re: Living in Al Ain
Texan8997, I can give you a little info regarding 2 of the schools you have asked about.
Al Ain American School. I had my three children enrolled and attending this school for 12 days. I took them out after issues with the head. She does seem lovely on first meeting. The situation for my family was so severe that we removed them without having any hope of a place at any other school.
Al Ain English Speaking School. My children are in Primary at this school. They love it and I am generally satisfied with the Primary School. Secondary does seem to have more than a few problems at this time. The head at this school will be leaving in June.
Any more questions, let me know.
