Larnie, I thought you'd left Al Ain ages ago, are you back ?!

Can anyone tell me whether we will be able to rent a car without a credit card ? If so, can anyone suggest a good place to start looking ?

Also, what happens with receiving post ? We'll be living inthe intercon for a month, but after that will have our own place in Zakher. Can you also let me know how long it takes to get post back to Britain ?

No not back just being nosey and possessive about my thread!! You will def need a cc to rent a car. Best rental car company is Europcar down at Sanaiya! Coming from the Intercon down schools road turn left at Etisilat building into Sanaiya, head down to the lights and u-turn like you are heading back to the new LuLu. Turn into LuLu but turn right instead of left and Europcar is right there.

We had our mail delivered to the Intercon whilst we lived there then got a P O Box. It's easy just need to fill in a form and have it signed by your husband then take it and a copy of his passport and visa into the PO and voila you have a PO Box. The PO is opposite the clock at the top of Main Street.

Not sure about postal times to Britain, sorry but generally speaking post is slow. It took 3 days for post from Dubai and AD.

just some news .. , the burimi border is fine now ...almost every day i go there to see a friend..and it only takes 10 min to be in and 10 to be out..JUST THEY LOOK into your passport.


Bwadi mall is opening next 3 or 4 weeks ( the mall that in mezyed)

Al Ain air show is open now and its 40 DHS for adult, 25 for children ( 3 years and under are not allowed ) DAAAAAAH!!

I have been reading through the posts and have finally decided to "log in." My husband has accepted a position in Al Ain, and will be starting there 1 March. I am staying stateside so that my four year-old can finish the school year. I read that Aikman7981 looking at the AAESS School and wantd to enquire further.

I have heard mixed reviews of the school and was hoping to hear the thoughts of anyone who had a child in attendance or was there researching the school first hand. We visited Al Ain briefly at the end of November, and stopped by the school. We did not get to tour the facility due to not setting an appointment. It all seemed rather chaotic, but in their defense it was the day before they were out for a break. Does anyone have any knowledge they can offer?

We stopped by another school, Al Ain American School, and were warmly welcomed by the Principal. We were even able to tour the facility without an appointment. The facility was very nice and located across from the large hospital. It is also close to the Palm Sports Resort. Has anyone heard of or had experiences with this school?

The final school was found on the Australian Embassy website, Al Ain Juniors School (British curriculum). I tried to email them but it popped back to me (could be clue #1). Any news on this school?

Sorry to have posted a book, but thank you for any assistance you can offer.

ummm...i think al ain American school is new to al ain , two years i thnk ..its beside Twam hospital , and close from Abella supermarket ..

We are still looking at schools and undecided. Its just so expensive for all of them (esp. AAESS). I'm curious to hear about the American school and the Juniors school. I think someone mentioned a school called Manor House at some point, anyone have any info? Ugh.

your lucky you aren't here in dubai! we are paying 30k a year for a 4 year old! still trying to get up to Al Ain, husband lost his job here but nothing coming up in AA, sadly.

Texan8997, I can give you a little info regarding 2 of the schools you have asked about.

Al Ain American School. I had my three children enrolled and attending this school for 12 days. I took them out after issues with the head. She does seem lovely on first meeting. The situation for my family was so severe that we removed them without having any hope of a place at any other school.

Al Ain English Speaking School. My children are in Primary at this school. They love it and I am generally satisfied with the Primary School. Secondary does seem to have more than a few problems at this time. The head at this school will be leaving in June.
