I read a recent story in the Daily Mail Online about Asian Muslims (although often their practices have nothing to do with Islam and are in fact just cultural traditions which they claim to be Islamic practice) who succeeded in blocking the fixture of a Cross in the front of a new church built for the people of Birmingham.

When I read that story I had to do a "double take", please remember I am a British Caucasian Muslim but what on earth!

I was shocked and angry that such people who even refuse to learn English properly are now dictating how native people can live and worship. One TV programme that vilifies this, is a current UK reality show called Muslim Driving School. The basic idea is to film Muslim Driving Instructors and non-Muslim female Instructors with Muslim female students during their day to day lives and driving lessons.

To me this is very offensive, as every "Muslim" in the show is Asian [except 1 young English girl who has reverted to Islam and now lodges with her Asian friend and Driving Instructor] and none of them are truly practising Islam, it should have been called "Asian Driving School" to be more accurate, now you will have ignorant people who criticize Muslims based on what they view of this show which I personally believe is the media's main aim in making such a show. [Another- Oh! Look at those backward Muslims]

Back to our main issue, so far all 4 episodes have shown one thing, that none of the Asians wish to assimilate into Britain and will continue to import more and more of their kin by way of marriage and dodgy student visas, an interesting fact on the show was in episode 2 when they said that British (when it suits them) Asians make their daughters marry from family abroad and that has led to a steady stream of over 20,000 males arriving in the UK every year - all of whom I am sure have little English if any and cannot really substantially contribute to the country as a whole, but maybe "uncle such and such" will help him establish a new corner shop or even better buy him a few houses to rent out to students

I am sorry to ramble on but I feel such things should be voiced as they are the main weight behind so much of the hate that Muslims are facing now from westerners and as I live in the middle of both worlds I wanted to add my 2 pence worth...
An interesting viewpoint. Gives another angle I guess.

What I can't understand is why more Muslims like yourself don't speak out publicly or against those you describe who tarnish your faith.

I read an article in a UK paper over the summer which was from a leading Muslim cleric who was doing just that. A refeshing change.

Agreed Victor!

I have always categorized "M" as one of those demeaning/judgemental words Like "C" and "T" that should only be used with people who know you better, i.e. who will put a glass in your face for mocking them

Sorry Sue, but I disagree. By the way, your relationship with your son is so personal and strong that you can say such things without seriously upsetting him (although I would never use such a word with someone I care for), but try and use it with someone in the street and you might get at best a look and at worst a slap right?

This has also been attributed to Kevin Rudd.
See http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/australia.asp
Where in these words does it explain the presence of a false statement, I am one of 3 persons who did not notice these two lines as a notification that it was a hoax and so carried on discussing the subject.

Yet spart choose to directly attack me on the issue and insult me, I could retort with a number insults in more than 5 languages but I am above such actions...

Sadly it seems that you are condoning his words, if he meant nothing by saying the word then why repeat a 2nd time in answer to my question?

I am sure that spart is a nice enough person and is maybe just having a bad day, however he still needs to show a little control, responsibility and respect as he would expect from others in return...

I am not condoning anything. Just asking all to not blow things out of proportion. In the grander scheme of things that is very, very mild. I am just asking that we don't blow one small comment out of proportion. As much as I don't like it I've seen much, much worse on this, and other discussion forums. But you need to understand that if we clamped down entirely we would have not discussions at all because someone, would always be upset by something someone wrote. It's just the nature of the beast. So instead I ask that we all try and meet each other half way. I can assure you if I felt that sparts comment was insulting or "abusive", I would have acted with the appropriate action.

Sue

Have to agree to disgree then.

I think the way some people on the forum throw that word around and similar condescending and belittling comments should be discouraged. It's unnecessary.

Theres a difference between disagreeing with someone and discussing comments and opinions, which is what this forum is for, and just calling someone a muppet because (in the opinion of the person insulting) they have missed something.

I'd never heard of anyone being called a muppet until I joined BE. I thought it was a fairly mild, entertaining word, since the "muppets" themselves are funny.

I'd not have taken serious offense to it anyway. While we're here, how's "prat"? I like it and imagine it's pretty offensive.

Victor and Wales4ever....perhaps you'd like to let the majority determine if 'Muppet' is really as bad as 'c.nut'.

Or the Urban dictionary response: http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...total%20muppet

I think you'll find you're a couple of Muppets for being overly insulted about it.

Muppet I never heard until I lived in the UK.

I put it alongside Tool, Donkey, Turkey, Dipstick, gimp or the phrase 'What are you like...'

Prat I would think is harsher unless from a mate.

yeah, "muppet" is still vaguely friendly, in that there's an amusement factor. "Tool" isn't though.
