I have a car loan and i have a few thousand AED outstanding on my HSBC credit cards.

I have two scenarios, what would happen

1. if i simply did a runner and just took the next flight back to the UK?

2. If i approached the bank and told them that i was made redundant and hence was in no current position to pay off the car loan or the outstanding balances on my credit cards?

in both cases what can the bank to do me?

and for the record, this hasn't happened (yet) and Inshallaah it won't (am in the oil and gas industry and so hopefully am pretty 'safe' for the time being), but I've just been wondering what I could do/what the consequences would be, if i was to lose my job, depending on which road i went down.

Cheers
I know a few customers of HSBC who have have been tracked down in the UK by debt collectors working for HSBC.

If someone has the ability to repay a debt he/she would be really unwise to contemplate a runner. Just not worth it....

I have every sympathy for people who got caught out after a few months here, before they'd had chance to establish a savings cushion. Those who are trying to make the bank write off their debts, costing the rest of us more, can sod off.

So you mean like all those people back in the UK - sitting pretty in houses they never should have been able to ‘afford’ – but did so through fraudulent activities in overstating earnings on the mortgage applications.

But get to stay in said houses because of the massive transfer of wealth from saver to borrowers through artificially low interest rates. Or if the sh!t hits the fan, then there’s various bailout schemes to pay their mortgage.

So who pays for all that then? Certainly anyone still paying tax in the UK, and anyone that’s paid into a UK pension (state or private) scheme. That money is all being pissed away as we speak.

Those who acted sensibly and didn't join the credit binge, but now paying for other's lifestyles/fukk ups ain’t exactly something new.

As a "white" welshman and Brit I have a few points I would like to put forward to the original thread poster a.k.a. Mission.

1) If you are a "naturalised" Brit why are you criticizing "native" white Brits? (by the way how do you know the posters are "white" as many Brits are also Black and are 3rd, 4th and 5th Generation British)

2) If you are not British why are you using the UK as a base if you do not like us white Brits? Also why are you even posting here -

Note: BritishExpats.com was setup to serve the British community abroad wherever they maybe, not as a forum for people to encourage deception and fraud or discuss any other issues which are not pertinent to British people's interests abroad such as careers, immigration laws, local customs, accommodation levels, living costs and the like...

3) In another thread (post in Jan 2010) you asked about Shia Mosques in Dubai for celebrating Al-Moharram, if you are a practising Muslim why are you even considering the idea of running away from any debts you may have, this directly contravenes sharia law does it not? or maybe Shia Muslims have some justification for not paying their debts?

Basically it seems that you are at best not British and are posting message threads in the wrong discussion forum or at worst you are a deceitful, debase and uncouth individual who hides behind a British passport or UK residency!

Most likely in an attempt to secure better job placements at higher rates of pay. (British on a CV often works for such persons)

lol @ lionheart

We were gaining the momentum up until Alun Wyn Jones's "Beckham Moment" as The Independent newspaper quite rightly put it. Sad to think that such an immature action could be taken by a player during such a critical match.

Anyway back to why I might have sounded bitter as you say.

It's because I am fed up with seeing people who enjoy all the privileges of having a British passport or UK residency but yet choose to whine and moan about our lifestyle, customs and people.

I have seen many occasions of this over the last 10 years during my time outside the UK, I have found that such people are often of Middle Eastern or Asian (Pakistani, Indian etc) decent. They all enjoy everything there is to offer and avoid giving anything back whenever possible, meanwhile they mock British people and their lifestyles to others in a derogatory fashion.

Personally, I think that we need to go further than UK Life Tests, we should make all male applicants for British nationality do compulsory 2 year military service and women should perform service in community or civil projects for a minimum of 2 years before being eligible also.

This would serve 2 aims, the first to teach them the value of being British and what sacrifices have and are still being made for us. The second, it would give them paid work in the service of the country and keep them off unemployment which is already growing at an alarming rate due to 1000s of redundancies.

Maybe we should take the same approach as the Aussie Prime Minister:

We need a leader like that..strong and correct with a lot of spine..

The views of Patriotic Australian Prime Minister - John Howard

"Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.

It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Not saying I agree with it or that it is politically correct...... but he does have a point ........ doesn't he?
