Why does eating your kill excuse the hunt?

I can understand the eating if its part of the local native/indigenous diet, but not the 1st world buy's my food at a supermarket type were talking about..
Eating it is as much a trophy statement as cutting and stuffing bits
In very few cases are they using the hunt to supplement the diet

I agree. I find hunting barbaric.

They always do, but the thrill of the hunt and the kill is provided by adrenaline.
They don’t get the same kick using a camera, even though the same routine takes place bar one event!!!
And adrenaline is part of primitive primate bloodlust…

FWIW everybody is a primate, some show it more than others :D

When you get right down to the nitty gritty? Come to think of it doesnt canada sell licenses to hunt polar bears?

Cant say its something I would advocate, but as I eat meat that probably makes me a hypocrite on some level.

Killing an animal or fish to eat meat is not quite the same (or even close) to killing something to have your picture taken beside it then take the head home and stick in on the wall, leaving the carcase to rot.

I'd agree if you'd said "Killing an animal or fish to because you need to eat the meat is not quite the same"

Killing it for sport or pleasure and then eating it as a bonus is the same as taking the head home

The former are a small minority in the world of hunting

Not what I hear about some of the more deprived areas nowadays:(

Probably not applicable to the international giraffe hunting set though...

You think? I disagree. The majority of north american hunters are in it for the sport, not to eat.

Yep I know some rural areas of Pennsylvania and Virginia hunting is a way of having meat, and the same can be said of more rural parts of Canada, but it’s still a very small minority.

And for those that drive for more than an hour to go hunting I doubt it includes them, if you go by plane you can be sure it’s not for the protein

Well just to add to the fun, and it’s not a shot at just hunters but human nature.
A friend of mine who is often is in and out of china on business was taken to a big outdoor Zoo (think safari park), for their viewing pleasure after dinner they released a cow into the tigers enclosure to watch.
I assumed pictures are not warranted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHmcsJ0DaOk but a video these days is always optional
Don't watch if you're sqeamish !!!!

Hunting for pleasure, not using a conventional weapon, and no meat wasted !

I don't disagree, killing of wild animals for sport and entertainment or even culling over populations to protect our own habitat is unnecessary slaughter.

We live in a world of hypocrisy though, plenty will buy farmed beef, but only buy wild caught fish from the grocery store, and not buy farmed because it does not have the same taste. I have never hunted wildlife and have no desire to do so, however I do eat farmed meat, farmed fish and wild caught fish.

It's the same people who fly in here to BC from the UK, the USA, or wherever elsewhere in the world, just to shoot grizzly bears. It's an "industry" but I personally don't get it at this day and age.

I wouldn't mind hunting as such if it were "real" hunting instead of driving around until you see something before hopping out of the truck and shooting it. Or where people make dens of some kind and lure the animal in before shooting just because they can and get a rush from the kill.

When i fight in the gym, it just wouldn't be the same if they lured an unsuspecting member of the public, blind folded, in front of me.
