What the stats don't provide, as far as I can tell so far, is the reason for this.

Are most deadly accidents occurring in cities or rural, or in Canada's case wilderness areas?

What is the average mileage a driver in the UK drives compared to a driver in Canada? I know myself, that I think nothing of driving 12 hours straight for several days to get somewhere within Canada. Most Canadians think nothing of a 6 or 7 hour drive for a weekend trip.
So this might be one of the reasons. More chance of accidents, the more you drive.
However, it would be interesting to find stats on this.

It may not just be " bad driving ".

As a side note, the US has a rate 11.4 per 100,000. Interesting to know why as well....

The main problem with Vancouver is definitely the people that live there. They are either narcissistic wankers or twatty hipsters with stupid beards or glasses.

Not that it's much better out here. Mostly it's enormous people driving enormous trucks.

Have to say there's a pretty laid back attitude towards drinking and driving here, When i first arrived i was given a half ton to drive and invited to meet office staff for supper, openly told so long as i eat i can have 3 or four beers and then drive from Winnipeg back to the Hotel i was in at Steinbach, I was genuinely shocked as it was the recruiter who said it lol

The old rule of thumb that it takes the average person 1 hour to burn off 1 drink and thus remain under the legal limit has gone by the boards since the stop check roadblocks began. A friend got a DUI a couple of weeks ago for blowing .09. Where before a single officer might have used his or her discretion, at the stop check they have to bust you.

I've always been of the mind that once i drink even a small amount i don't drive.
But that's because my HGV/CDL is my livelihood and i would never jeopardise it for the price of a cab.
As a recruiter here if i see a DUI on your abstract you don't get an application or if you brought one filled out it goes in the shredder.

We had an event at our bar on Saturday night that was an alumni reunion (3rd annual) for staff of a now defunct bar and bistro, and when I came to clean up yesterday morning there were 6 or so cars in the lot and another 3 on the street. I thought there must be a meeting that wasn't on my calendar but it was actually a well organised designated driver program. Kudos to that group for caring about their people!

I'm close to 70 & most of the time think I'm 30 - so am I & others like me "past it", whatever "past it means"?
