Nearly a year in Canada now and have found the whole experience pretty good so far except for two things.

Bad drivers and the lack of manners, the latter is when you stop the car your driving to let people cross either in a car park or across the road and the s just look at you and don't say thanks.

I wind down the window now and say

"eah mate you just dropped something"

"what" and they take a look

"Ya manners ya

Sorry for rant but there is no excuse for a lack of manners, my accents is so strong they don't know what I'm saying anyway, other than that its all good and we are having a great time!

Same thing here. I'm in California and they just don't say thanks as a rule. I think it's that bloody stupid urban legend that says if you flash someone to say "move over" or "its dark and you forgot your lights" you're actually initiating a gang hit on yourself. Rude, crappy drivers.

Change your province.

Cars stopping to allow me to pull out of the side road on my bike are routine. When it's not busy on the main road and where I want to be is directly opposite it's easier to cross there instead of walking the 20 yards to the crossing, waiting, crossing and then coming back to the same point.

Drivers will see people wanting to cross and will stop or slow as necessary even when they're not crossing at the proper places.

I always give a thumb up or wave and a mouthed Thank-you.

Perhaps we just have three nice drivers here and it's the same ones every time.

Of course, there are exceptions.

I ignore those things as common every day occurrences that will never ever change or go away & consider it part of the course

Wait till you've been here a few years more & have something that will *really pi$$ you off* or that you even need to be concerned about

Drive defensively, read and understand the rules of the road and you'll be fine. Also clean all the snow off your car this winter so I can see you; if you just remove a little space on the windows to peep through you'll be chancing a ticket or someone smashing into your car and knocking it all off.

Indicators. Incorrect use of roundabouts. Driving like you're in a video game. All 3 combined usually. [I still have broken formatting - sorry!]

This morning I was driving along a straight, flat, road at 60mph with my dimmed headlights on. It was dark. There was some oncoming traffic (hence my moderate speed, you never know if an oncoming car contains a cop). A car in the incoming line pulled out to overtake. "Oh my", I thought, "big risk of death here". I stopped and swerved toward the verge. No one died. I see this sort of thing monthly, cars pulling out on the assumption that the driver coming the other way will see what's happening and react in time. I think it's a fair bet that often the people involved are not fine. People drive extremely badly here, there's no getting away from it, nor from the consequent insurance premiums.

The use of the lights! they just don't get it do they. There's been so many fatalities over since we arrived, constantly see people cutting right across the lanes, driving up your backside,not looking at all even when reversing out of a parking space.

Love to see the statistics on accidents compared to the UK with regards to population, amount of cars etc?
