Say what you like about Shearers personality, but he was a hell of a player? I dont think there were too many center backs who looked forward to playing him in his day.

Does the fact that Souness used to kick the crap out of people make him less of a great player...He just operated within the framework of the rules as they were applied at that time. Unfare to judge by "modern" standards, the gamesmanship is just part of playing the game. Doesnt detract from his increadible ruthlessness in front of goal, and fact that he used to take his fare share from the center backs too.

Exactly. When he played for NUFC in his latter days he seemed to have too much influence with the Newcastle coach of the day...in other words, if you bench me, you're history.
