barring one incredibly lucky comeback in turkey of course.

Who's refering to 20 years ago? RTFP. This idiotic rivalry and putting down of other teams really pisses me off.

You seem to have forgotten a number of European trophies, FA cups etc etc in the intervening years, I think 2006 was the last one...

We dont forget our history and herritage, same way you lot will hopefully not forget the busby babes and their success. How long did Man U go without winning the league, 26 years? If you are a long term supporter rather than a fair weather fan then what does it matter? :frown:

Even though Liverpool haven't won 'anything' in the last 20 years with the exception of:
  • League Champs - 1990
  • F.A. Cup - 1992
  • League Cup - 1995
  • F.A. Cup - 2001
  • League Cup - 2001
  • Charity Shield - 2001
  • UEFA Cup - 2001
  • European Super Cup - 2001
  • League Cup - 2003
  • Champions League - 2005
  • European Super Cup - 2005
  • Charity Shield - 2006
  • F.A. Cup - 2006

Not the best period in our history but even after 20 years of not winning the league we are now the 2nd best team in England again.

Looking at big clubs like Newcastle facing the possibilty of relegation I think fans need to remember that could have been Liverpool but we are still winning trophies (whether dubbed mickey mouse trophies or not you still need to beat some of the best teams in England to win them). The benefit that Liverpool now have are the idiot fans saying Benitez is a horrid manager yet he has put Liverpool in the best position for over 10 years and it was our bad performances against clubs like tottenham, middlesborough and stoke that cost us the title this year (assuming Man U don't F up).

You can say Liverpool are no threat to UTD all you want but next season who knows? Just think this season Gerrard and Torres (the two man team) have only started this season 11 times together perhaps if we had a better injury record this year that 6 point gap wouldn't be there!

I'm not making excuses or saying that's why we are where we are but it is a question that raises a few eyebrows amongst all the people that say Liverpool aren't good enough and lets face it they just had there best Premier League performance ever!

I hope it continues onto next season and whether Liverpool win or lose trophies it doesn't matter to me I watch football to be entertained and this year has been a great season for entertainment.

oh dear, i think i have predictably upset the liverpool contingent, who love to talk about their 'history' but then bite big time when you mention it is history.

nice to see though they are happy with being the 2nd best team in england, bless.

Hardly, if you are a Geordie then they are a big club..............big in terms of local support but not in success.

Yes the Liverpool Reds have be successful in cup competitions and Benitez has moved you forward but that still doesn't make up for the fact that its been a long long time since you won the league which is the true indicator of the best club in the country.

So substitute Forest or Ipswich, or Leeds then, clubs with european and domestic pedigree, now languishing in the lower divisions.

This thread has rumbled on in good humour for months with no major agro, and along come a couple of mancs full of themselves and keen to score points (perhaps a result of the insecurity of going so long in the 70s and 80s without wining), and now everyone has to brainlesly slag off other peoples teams without taking the other posters point on board. Grow up.

I would love it if we beat them, LOVE IT...

But ultimately its just a bunch of overpaid tossers kicking a ball around when its all said and done.

ok lets take a less dispassionate look at this.

fa cup, 9 seasons without a win, then another 5, then 3 more, hardly consistent. luck of the cup?

19yrs no league.

are we really counting charity shield and coca cola/league cup? i thought these were generally acknowledged as show piece/2nd string team affairs.

which leaves us with basically a fantastic european year, 8yrs ago, and a lucky win 4yrs ago. well done.

We didn't win because there was no money for Evans, had he been given a good transfer kitty we would have won something.

The fact is we hired Houllier who decided that no player he inherited was good enough (the likes of Fowler & Mcmanaman). So he went out and purchased an entire new team, with which he bought some real talent like big Sami.

But if they had just given Evans the money then we were already in good shape back then we just needed another one or two players and we could have threatened a lot more.

The 90's for Liverpool was not the best time but lets face it there has not been any point where Liverpool were seen as an average team the lowest we finished was 5th under Benitez and Houllier I believe.

The rest of the time we were in the top four.

thats out of order, who is to say these posts were not in good humour and a very mild prod, certainly nothing direct as 'mancs full of themselves' and there is certainly no slagging off, factual references only made, and given how this thread has ticked over, i would have thought it obvious that its all in good part.

i think the real issue is and always will be liverpool and man u are intense rivals, some can rib others about it, take it and give it back. others can't.

Sometimes you know it's very hard to tell.

And I don't know why certain abrasive mancs are picking on Pool. It's the Gooners they are playing today.

Don't why you lot are sniping with eachother, think of poor Novo, he may never see his side win anything in his lifetime. :)

<coughs>
Being a Spurs fan that may also apply to me. :frown:
