He's not even from England. He's a bored Border Patrol person who spends his days looking on this forum and wishing he was English. He actually originally thought Manchester was in Asia given the demographic of supporters that they have. But he has a shirt now from Sport Check and everything.

So anyway.

Is this Messi chap better than Maradona? This is becoming a debate I increasingly have with people.

Maradona won the league single handedly with a poor Napoli team and also lifted the World Cup.

Messi plays infront of the best central midfield partnership ever Xavi and Iniesta and as a result is gifted alot of opportunities.

I percieve Maradona as the greatest. What is the concensus?

Fair point. Let's move back to actual football instead of supposed clever jibes at peoples' teams. By the way, for me you support where you come from.

I'd give Messi the nod simply because of his work rate compared to Maradonna. He's all over the place more or less simultaneously. I think I'll use his youtube clips to explain wave-particle duality next semester.

Must we rank these artists? Really, is there a point? Different eras, different levels of protection, both sublimely gifted. What about Pele, or Beckenbauer, or Cruyff?

I dont think I could put Maradona top of any list just because footy is a sport, and I cant rate him as a "sportsman" because of "the hand of god". Winning a free kick due to unexpected local gravitational concentrations is one thing, but punching the ball in in a WC QF is pretty low.

Messi, best player of the current era? No question. Best of all time? Does it matter? Just enjoy it while it lasts.

I have to agree actually. I like players who track back, work hard and not just wait for something to be delivered to them.

Early days of Torres did that; latter days at Liverpool he did not and has continued that trend at Chelsea.

I completely agree with that. JamesM has already been in Canada too long. Next he'll be asking whether Wayne Gretsky was better than Bobby Orr.

Again with that last statement ( you have done it previously on another thread ) the world can now abandon message boards and go out into the sunlight.

I believe people will argue that Wayne Gretzky was better

I recently won around of trivial persuit with Bobby Orr. It was on the winning goal of a Stanley Cup final. They re-run the goal constantly should you ever make it to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
