The manager picks the players he thinks will win each game, based on tactics, injuries and who did well in training (at least that's how I think it works). If the team plays poorly, I don't think the entire blame can be placed on the manager as he'd be criticised if he constantly left one of his team's most expensive players on the bench. Gerrard is seen by many as the only player at Liverpool who is worth a place in the starting 11.

I'd like to respond is similarly relevant colours, but it's hard to do it in saying that when Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End became the only true United, they wore black and white.
