Rodgers says Suarez is "chomping at the bit" to return to action. An unfortunate turn of phrase I think.

Your first win at WHL in 14 years apparently. I think UEFA need to investigate whether the match was fixed or not :p

Eh?

Sportsnet One, Sportsnet World, and the main Sportsnet channels are flooded with it. Sportsnet 360 has some too and it's a free trial here for the month.

TSN 1 & 2 also has games.

I would be more interesting to divide those numbers by the total gate for home games. I mean, you have to have some people in the stands before they can get arrested.

But I'm not bothered. It'll be a long time before we lead the premiership in any other category.

There's a rumour that after Pardew gets the sack they'll go for Di Canio.

That would be par for the course and perhaps less disastrous than giving the job to our current Director of F****all.

Cardiff seems to have a similarly insane owner to ours. That one's just appointed a 23 year old Khazak friend of his son as chief scout.

Hopefully it goes no further than the ideas stage. No doubt there's potentially money in it for UEFA though.

I think it could be an interesting idea too, as long as the individual groups were based on rankings. Otherwise, all we'll be watching are the same 4 or 6 teams each time (England, Wales, Scotland, NI, and possibly Rep. of Ireland and France.

At least with a ranking's based system of groups, the potential is there for improving teams to jump up a group on good performances and for poorly playing teams to drop down.

If England want the lucrative games against Brazil or Argentina, they'd need to drastically improve their game then!

Isn't money the primary reason UEFA exists?

The last paragraph in the article states;

The FA and the other big European associations may be among the most difficult to convince of the merits of the plan, because they would have to give up the possibility of lucrative friendlies against big South American sides.

I see your point, as Brazil and Argentina aren't UEFA Nations.

I don't see UEFA sanctioning friendlies against non-UEFA teams though were this to go ahead. UEFA would rather have an extra match under their control.

I see your point, but are friendlies against BR or AR more lucrative for the FA than serious matches against, e.g. Spain, Germany, Holland, Italy or Portugal (together with England, the grauniad's possibly mad suggestion for the First Division)?

I personally think that if the only time you're going to play 2 of the top 5 World Cup sides is during the actual tournament, then there's no point going?

As I've said before somewhere, I think England should go to Brazil with the next generation of players to blood them, but concentrate on getting them to gel as a team for 2018.

Without agreeing or otherwise with your position, who do you think are the next generation of players?

Moreover, there is the small matter of qualifying to go at all.

This was mentioned a lot in the guardian debate.

I know England didn't do much to be happy about but the Euros were only last year. They won their group, only knocked out on penalties by finalists Italy, finished 5th.

Whereas Holland lost all their games and came bottom of their group.

Wayne Rooney? Hodgson would be better off picking Mickey Rooney.

I still believe that England have very little chance of winning the World Cup, so should blood the youngsters in a competition no-one would expect them to do well in.

As long as Arsenal's players came out of the international break without injury problems, I'm happy.

No-one believes that England have a chance of winning the World Cup, not next year or 4,8,12,16 years later. Get over it.

Looks like Ozil had to leave after 10 mins with knee injury.

Get over what?

I severely doubt ANY of the home national teams will ever make it to a World Cup Semi-Final, let alone win it, either as they are or as a UK team. Ever. But many of the current crop aren't even first choice for their clubs.

I'm not speaking as an England fan, as I'm not, I'm speaking as someone who believes we need to build for the future.

He left with less than 10 mins of the game remaining, after playing 82 mins.

We're waiting to see what the Arsenal physio says when he arrives back in London this morning.

i believe England do have a chance but it will be at least 10 years away...England have woken up to the fact they need to invest in their youngsters, facilities and coaches like the Germans, Spanish, Dutch etc did 10-15 years ago..i think they opened a $200m facility of excellence in the midlands about a year ago..specifically to develop English players/youngsters and all the national teams..prove will be how the U17, U20s and U21s improve over the next 5 years.
