I had cabbage and sausage soup with potatoes, carrots, the leftover canned tomatoes, onions and rye bread and a few beers.

We had freshly caught winter Chinook salmon, mango salsa and some sliced avocado.

Re: Teatime Choices
I'm making a hamburger steak with fried onions, mashed potatoes, gravy and peas; not only a classic but (in my opinion) the yard-stick by which all roadside diners and truck stops must be judged. If you've ever read John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men you may recall the hamburger steak scene in the lunch wagon, poetry.
Inspiration for this was the big bottle of HP I bought this morning. |

Re: Teatime Choices
This evening I made, successfully for once, a noble1 great toad in the hole complete with onion gravy. (With onions strained out for me and the kids). My past attempts have generally resulted in a soggy mass of uncooked batter but this one rose nicely with crunchy and softer bits galore. The kids were mightily impressed with my 6 year old saving some of her batter for her bed time snack. Served with broccoli & carrots, cauliflower now being reserved for high days and holidays.
Tomorrow will be some sort of braised beef dish as cross rib steaks were on special at the weekend. ($5 worth will feed our family of four). Probably accompanied by egg noodles and whatever veg is in the fridge. (Can you tell I'm working from home a couple of days this week.;)) Re-reading Patrick O'Brian novels at present. Hence the odd language. |

Re: Teatime Choices
I had canned sockeye for lunch the other day. Got a few dozen jars left from last year so I'm having it once or twice a week at the moment.
