She shouldn't have been left or working alone in the first place. True it maybe a one off incident but it makes you wonder why it happened and will it happen again.
I'm not sure if it still is the case, but in Sweden it was forbidden to question a refugees stated age even though there were estimates that over 50% of minors were deliberately lying about their real age (a figure supported by results from Denmark when medical tests were introduced). There are some great pictures showing groups of unaccompanied under 18 refugees holding cuddly toys with visiting politicians that showed them standing next to "children" who look like 25-30 year old men. For some strange reason the Swedish government stopped publishing these type of photos! The reason why the refugees lie about their age to make themselves under 18 is they are more likely to be given asylum, can bring their family to Sweden, will be treated more leniently by the criminal justice system etc etc.

Yes, if you're on holiday.

However, imagine you go on holiday to a resort where the group to which you belong is known to be unpopular among certain types and possibly open to abuse or, worse, assault when identified.

How wise would you think it that this common practice was forced upon you so as to identify you to those who may take advantage of it and thus single you out in a way that might otherwise not happen?

Seems to me this is the sort of problem with privatising things that shouldn't be privatised.

So unless they're wandering around in t-shirt how is this a big issue ?

It'll be a lot like those you do wear at a concert or resort, you need to pull back your sleeve for other to see it

This is whinging of the 1st order....

The difference is that in a conference/resort the wristband denotes positive status, inclusion in the group, access to resort goodies, etc..

For a refugee that needs to eat, it's a reminder that they have nothing, and without it they will starve. A visual reminder of desperation as opposed to a visual reminder of success.

Sometimes you need to think beyond mere practicalities. It's called empathy.

Beyond that, as Bristol noted, there is the very real risk that such a wristband would drawn unwanted attention from thugs etc..

How unbelievably crass is it to liken being on holiday or at a concert with a situation having fled conflict in one's own country?

And then to rub it in with comments about wearing T-Shirts.

I've read some tripe on this subject but that's just unbelievable.

"Godwin's Law" is a pathetic rhetorical device used to shut down debate.

Do we learn from history or do we dismiss a major period of European history because it is expedient to do so? If anything, we should be examining the plight of Jewish refugees in the Thirties and Europe's approach to them to better inform our decisions regarding Syrian refugees and migrants from elsewhere.

I had to look up pink triangles as I only knew about the star (which it turns out are two yellow triangles). I didn't realise it's from there (at least partially) that the gay community derived their pink theme.
