Whilst no one person can ever be held totally responsible for these deaths, Chancellor Merkel will be more responsible than anyone else, but in the long term perhaps more importantly she may have precipitated events that result in the majority of the European population not caring to an extent that personally I would have thought unthinkable even 2 months ago.

Poland elected a new anti immigrant/refugee government today who will be next?

At 10k people a day Germany will eventually close its borders but when that happens can you imagine the misery, hopelessness and violence for the 100's of thousands of people trapped on the migration road to Germany?

Totally depressing.

You mean how life just isn’t fair

A world of winner and losers

But you seem to forget societies put rules in place to helpbalance this inequality, it stops those at the top abusing their position
One could think that the refugees UN rules would be put inplace to ensure fair distribution of limited resources, such that those reallyin need get help , not those at the head of the queue, one might go so far asto say to prevent those with money who are willing to use the help of criminalsto queue jump
So if we have resources and place in Europe…. Who should getthem?
Poor genuine refugees who follow the rules, no matter how badlymanaged, who have some faith in order, waiting for a place in a UNCHR camp
Or those with slightly more money who’ll use those funds topay criminals to smuggle them across borders, who think the rules put in placeby the societies they’d like to live in don’t apply to them.
Every place taken by an migrant, is one no longer availableto a refugee

Still I noticed neither of you did answer Shard's question..

I know you live in Canada, I think you underestimate the common man view of the migrant problem in UK and importantly, across much of Europe.

In very recent times there has been war in Europe between ethnically different groups, do you think that their concerns are relevant?

Add to this ignorance that is common in U.K, Particularly through the press and media coverage and you have mistrust. People are weary of change, it is human nature, many of the refugee/ migrants will be taking housing stock and jobs from many who are in need in this country, I think you have made your point, but it is too simplistic IMO.

Interesting piece. The key is integration, not disintegration (as noted) and at least now there is recognition that religious ideology is part of the problem.

World needs to get used to this sort of thing and in larger numbers if the forecasts for the persian gulf become reality and the region becomes too hot for humans to live. The article said by the end of the century.

Absolutely correct, the world has got to get used to 10's of millions of people wanting to move on a regular basis for various reasons. What the last 2 months is proving is that a few rich liberal western countries can't absorb everyone who wants to move there especially as politicians do not have the agreement of their own population. To prevent the situation where we end up with genuine refugees not being able to go find anywhere safe to live these genuine refugees are also going to have to accept that they might have to be resettled in countries that aren't rich but still offer a safe place to live and/or only be offered temporary resettlement until its safe to return home.

Is a split in the CDU/CSU union going to happen in Germany?

Personally I hope it happens because as the second article states better the CSU than the far right AFD?

Google translate works reasonably well if you search the headline.
