Default Suitable role models?

OK, so following on from the Brazt thread, who do you think are good role models for children, and in fact, all of us as we all need inspiration sometimes? I love:

Stephen Hawking
Condaleeza Rice
Bill Gates
Michael Vaughn
Zara Phillips

I'm sure I'll think of more.

His or her parents or maybe a really good F1 driver so they can look after their Mummy and Daddy when they get older.

Based on 5 year olds current obsessions;

Cinderella
Snow White

Ariel
Belle

Not who I would have chosen myself, but we have little influence on who our kids look up to

People I admired as a kid, Douglas Bader, Richard Feynman, Ben Hogan

I dont think I was even aware of "celebrities" when I grew up in the 70s. Whether thas becauses I was sheltered from the whole idea by my parents, or just cos the media was not 24/7 obsessed with them I couldnt say.

Emlyn Hughes and Kevin Keegan should be added to the earlier list Guess where that part of my youth was spent

I like Ms. Burchill. Kind, generous, commercial successful, sexually adventurous, shame about all the drugs and the sheer volume of her.

Zara Phillips does seem a worthy role model, the more so for her reputation for ferocious social activity. I should not be ashamed of children who turned out to be dirty horsey women.

It's her voice (Julie's that is). I just can't get beyond that to the thoughtful, intelligent woman that you say she is...
