Although I do remember a couple of occasions when the Parkie used to tell us we couldn't play if there were two teams, each in different kit because that constituted a match and that made it official which meant it had to be authorised.

and of course we were quite free with 'sharing' the British culture in many other countries too - pot, kettle anyone?

Can I just point out something to Exilelass:
In another thread (the one about being happy in Canada) you stated that you used to live 5 hrs north of Edmonton and then moved to Vancouver because (and quote) it's about as British as you can get without being Britain.
Now in this thread you are stating that people who move to another country, by nature are going to be rejected, and that because of the influx of others to the UK / Scotland many ar moving out.
You feel happy and settled inn Vancouver no? Is that because "Vancouverites" have been drugged into submssion to accept you?
No - I think it's because Canadians are more accepting than the good old salt of the earth people back in the UK, that you would so vehemently defend.
In summary, my view on your posts is that you tend to be a typical middle class immigrant that feels the need to whinge about the state of the UK.
It also makes you come across as someone who is intolerant of other nationalities.

At no point did I say I felt happy and settled.
At no point did I whinge about the state of the UK.
At no point did I say people who move to another country will be rejected; I said that large numbers "swamping" another place will be.
I did not defend anyone, in Canada nor in the UK. There are salt of the earth people in both countries, who are very welcoming and there are bigots in both countries also.
I am anything but intolerant of other nationalities. I have friends from many nations and we enjoy exchanging our cultures freely.
What I said was that as a good host I would gladly embrace someone who wanted to move to my country and settle there, and as a good guest I would recognise that I am just that, a guest and attempt to be highly respectful of those welcoming me.
I think you are misunderstanding me.

You did say this though;
'We have English neighbours who have whole heartedly embrassed being Canadians; they speak like Canadians and have taken up Canadian hobbies, drink and life style and are as happy as sandboys! Long may that continue for them.
We can't do that."
which makes it sound as though you yourself have not adapted your ways to the Canadian lifestyle.
I appreciate that it is very hard to do, but that should make you more understanding of other immigrants and not just condemn them for not fitting in.

Immigrants are part of the community not staying for supper. They pay taxes, work, vote, contribute. They can have opinions on the country they live in, they can criticise it or praise it. They don't have to sit around being grateful and tugging their forelocks at everyone who just happened to have been born in that country.

I suppose I thought that when you said;
"When you bring more people of another culture into an already existing one, than are already there, you will always create disharmony. The resident culture is under threat and will reject the incomers. It is biological. It is the same as organ transplant medicine. The host will reject the transplant."
that was condemnation.
But I can see how comparing people to a diseased kidney can be taken in different ways.
