That's at least partly why I love soup.
No prawn cocktail?

Thanks. I guess I'm going to have to either make my own or take a trip to NZ to get some. $3.99 plus postage is a bit rich for my blood.

I haven't seen it locally in a while now. We used to have an English Bob shop down in the town and I would buy in several cans at a time from there. The owners of the shop liked it themselves and used it when they made liver and bacon casserole . They had to give up when the shop rents went through the roof.

I've tried making my own and it turned out rather nasty.

It's about time you packed her off to another conference or something. I bet you could put on 20lbs in one weekend.

Assuming the mix is dried but doesn't need to be pre-soaked overnight...

1. Make up a couple of litres of vegetable stock from stock cubes.
2. Chop up a couple of onions.
3. Grate half a dozen carrots, a turnip and a celeriac - or whatever root vegetables you fancy.
4. Chuck everything into a big pot, bring to the boil. Let it boil for 5 minutes then simmer for an hour. Season to taste, use lots of ground white pepper for a nice heat.

Eat what you want and freeze the rest. Chuck in a ham bone as well if you don't want veggie soup.

Perfect! I will try that. Need to buy the root veggies and white pepper first.

Christmas is coming and I foresee in her future a nice long trip to Palm Springs.
