There are some wonderful shots posted on these boards and I thought it would be a good idea to start sharing your best shots, tips tricks and "must have gear". The best thing anyone did to improve my photography is tell me my pics suck, and why! If you would like your pics critiqued by others let us know, if you don't mind others enhancing your shots, tell us so.
This isn't meant to be a gear-head thing whether you use a pinhole camera, a point and squirt, or a 24mp Hasslebrad, post em up, and most of all have fun and lets learn from each other. Just so admin dont have a hissie fit, lets keep it somewhat Canadian related

This was shot though wire mesh, now the trick here is to use the long end of a telephoto and presto the wire gets blurred out!.

I spent about half an hour standing stock still waiting for this little Dark Eyed Junko to settle down and allow me to take his picture.

Id love to know how to even out the brightness so the reflected lights dont saturate it in places.

Shot using my halogen worklights and manual whitebalance so I can override the flash, to avoid that making it even worse...

As usual the camera is nothing fancy..just a canon powershot A620. At least it has some manual override capabilities though

Perhaps this thread would be better in the mapleleaf area though... although both saxes currently reside in Canada at least

Beautiful instruments I'll bet they sound just as good as they look.

I don't do much artificial light photography so I may be talking through my hat here.

Have you tried placing some opaque object a white sheet or some thick polythene film between the lights and the subjects, so the light is not so direct and harsh. Might require the use of a tripod if you soften the light enough.

This shot is of a rather unique subject, it's a carrot with a carrot-todger. I found this "man-carrot" in a stew bag purchased from Superstore, I spent about half a minute cutting his "feet" off to stand him up and allow me to take his picture.

To get that good/bad I was reflecting the light off the ceiling and walls to try and diffuse it. I was too lazy to get the tripod out...and besides my wife has already started to refer to this kind of thing as "saxporn"..so I don't want to give her any more ammo!


If only they sounded half as good as they look...but thanks for the kind words anyway! (its not the hardware, thats quality German stuff..its the software!)
