The Council have come up with the whizzo scheme of stripping the Mayor's office of it's budget and giving it to the Deputy Mayor instead.

That should do it.

Alana is the same one as the Eleanor I mentioned yesterday. The pronunciation was and is unclear to me. Today I thought Ford called her Helena, but these people all speak slack-jawed Canadian, so I can't be sure.

Just, I say just, conceivably, I was making that up.

I sincerely, sincerely....sincerely...apologize.

I promise it won't happen ever again...on this thread.

There's nothing left in my closet to apologize for...well there may still be a coat hanger or something in there....I don't know.

I've made mistakes and I apologize, sincerely, sincerely, but I'm going to stick to my job for the good of the ordinary little people in, err, Etobicoke.

**** off. Oh, and I never said I'd eat her p*ssy. I've got enough to eat at home.

Mayor Ford does have some failings but, dear God, the rest of the council are such wankers you can see why so many people support him:

"Councillor Karen Stintz announced the city had temporarily suspended all school trips to city hall because staff deemed them unsafe for the children."

Council do seem to have stiffened their sinews somewhat this morning, though. Just voted to remove some of Ford's powers (only Rob Ford and his brother voted against) which is about as much as they can do given the bizarre lack of an impeachment process of any kind. They're now debating a motion to curtail his executive decision-making powers in emergencies.

Oh, and the "possibly an escort" young woman has been identified, allegedly. She's a sometime model and pageant winner form Ajax, Alana Kindree. Apparently her father was quick to defend her honour, saying that of course she's not a sex worker and there may possibly have been a legitimate reason for her to have been in the mayor's office in the late evening hours.

I'd question why his wife was at that press conference instead of heading for the hills. Could it be his bullying nature?

Yes. Yes, it could. She looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights in that daft media scrum when Ford decided to leave the press conference through the middle of the press pack. Poor bloody woman.

Errrrm probably not people.....think Hilary Clinton (standing by her man), additionally, the "wiener guy" in the USA with all the sexting (bloke that looked like Capt Spock from the enterprise)

What would you do if that was your daughter...the same am guessing or not? legitimate reason could be that she is an "intern" like Monica Lewinsky?

You think Wayne Gretzky likes seeing all those pics of his daughter splashed out there on Twitter and the internet?

I do feel for Mrs Ford, considering I don't even know what she looks like (honest truth)...not that it matters, just saying

I take the other view that she is the driving force, pushing & nagging him - maybe that is why he is a crackhead?

I can see it with Ford saying or screaming at her 'look what you've got me into now' - I want you up front row & centre, cos I'm not taking this crap by myself.

The real story of Ford & his family will never be known. Will the chief nail Ford good & proper (I doubt it) & do we the people really give a shite if he stays in office?

Other than the media frenzy, the best backlash could be if council sat like dummies becoming totally inactive, not presenting any issues for debate or motion or tabling whatever. Let Ford sit daft & stupid. If and or when Ford wants to excite council they simply ignore everything ford does or has to say. He needs a quorum or someone to disagree with him. If he doesn't have that he has nothing.

Let the day to day city business run, manage the money & the police service ignore Ford & life in TO will be honky dory

I quite liked the way every councillor turned their backs on him whenever he got up to speak yesterday afternoon. Didn't do the same this morning, but they've effectively neutered him today so it doesn't really matter any more what he says.

I don't think the full Ford vs Police story is anything close to over. We've barely raised the curtain on the second act.

The wonderful irony in all this is that the city council has probably never worked together as effectively as they have in the last three days. A couple of clarifying questions, one or two points of order, and the motions and bills have been passed more or less nem con. If they can carry anything like the same degree of unity into council business for the next 12 months, perhaps the Ford administration will prove to have been more effective without a functioning mayor than it could ever have hoped to be with one.

I thought that was stupid and childish and they came across as petty and uncompassionate. He's a tragic figure of fun who is obviously going through a pretty tough time and his job is not exactly of earth shattering importance. TBH its with that bunch its no wonder Torontonians voted for Ford.

Stupid and childish? He's used up the compassion. He wouldn't go when colleagues were encouraging him to seek help. He's tried to lie and bully his way through the whole saga. Adopting such playground tactics seems to be one of very few ways to get through the playground nature of the mayor's brain. Ford has been given every opportunity to behave in a responsible and mature way, but has proven to be more stupid and childish than ever. His (and his brother's) tactic of trying to turn the tables and attack others is only a whisker away from the "I know you are, you said you are, but what am I?" debating style of the average five-year-old. I actually think the rest of council have behaved pretty well and handled the situation with surprising dignity, all things considered.

I understand all that, but I'll stand by my opinion that the council should of shown some compassion and grace rather than engaging in a cheap publicity stunt that should be reserved for the classroom.

I think we should fear that. There's nothing worse for a place than having an effective governement, one that does things. Better to have one that does nothing, even better if there's a laugh to be had out of it.

They've been there, done that.

Ford refuses to listen to them.

Yes, he's a sick man in so many different ways and there is pity for him buried among the contempt, but his bullying stubbornness is not part of his sickness, he's always been like that.

Quite. It seems evident that he's a shit with addiction issues, rather than an addict with other problems. Time for compassion is long over.

Apparently, the actor Charlie Sheen writes:

“Dear Mayor Rob Ford,” Mr Sheen wrote on Twitter, “The only truth or correct reporting in today’s repulsive story regarding my alleged comments about you is the accurate spelling of your great city… If I can be of any assistance in any capacity in this media cesspool, please accept the noble offer of my steady hand and compassionate heart.”
