Having just googled this, it seems that "1st year" burdock and rhubarb look very similar, but burdock has hollow stems.

Dandelion and burdock was, I think, an odd beverage consumed by dirty kneed boys in short trousers in the north. Just William probably drank it. I don't think it involved alcohol.

You can also dry/roast burdock root to make a coffee substitute.
Oh, and rhubarb finds it a little hard to adapt to the drought & sun-strewn S of Spain! ... but it's surviving, just....
