This cartoon I found amusing, can replace San Diego for nearly every major west coast city San Diego to Vancouver.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Indeed. There is a housing affordability crises up and down the west coast of North America, its not isolated to one or 2 city's.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Went to the lab this morning, most painful blood draw I have had in a long time, I think the person might have been in the newer side.
Anyhow life labs really seems to be pushing myehealth here now, I was asked 3 times if I am signed up for it, and they were asking everyone, and those who said no they then asked would you like to sign up before leaving today, so they really seem to want patients to sign up for the service. I signed up years ago, most lab results are provided there, some are not though. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Seems Windsor can be added to the list of city's with housing issues.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I watched the new 'Joker' movie last night. Holy shit it is dark. Joaquin Phoenix did an amazing job. Not many movies affect me after I leave the cinema, but this one had me in a weird almost sullen mood for the rest of the day.

So, we’ve (human race) finally done it. Hunted to extinction one of the world’s majestic creatures to service the false medical needs of Asian people living in a superstitious world. The last living male white Rhino died in July, 2018. The October issue of National Geographic has a photograph on its cover of the creature dying. Very sad indeed. |

. I didn't really want to put in a complaint because the overall standard of nursing care was great, but in the end I did do a formal complaint. My hand swelled up to twice its size and I've been left with a very painful lump in it from blood leaking into the tissues. Subsequent cannulas/IVs had to be done in my feet because the veins in my hands were trashed. The Consumer Liason Officer (weird name for person who deals with patient complaints!) wrote that she's 'very concerned' about my experience, and promised an investigation. I'll apparantly hear back in three weeks. I did say in the complaint that the only outcome I'm looking for is that any deficiencies in their processes/protocols are identified and addressed. Still feel a bit bad, he was a nice young man, just useless at that particular job. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
There are 3 types of white rhino.
The regular white rhino Ceratotherium simum and 2 sub species The Northern white rhino Ceratotherium simum cottoni The Southern white rhino Ceratotherium simum simum The White rhino and southern white rhino have good populations due to conservation and are not endangered and have healthy population in the 20,000 range. The northern white rhino is critically endangered obviously with only I think 3 now living in captivity and extinct in the wild. In the 1970's there was a population of around 500, poaching reduced that to 15 by the end of the 80's, by 2003 the population had grown to around 32 animals, but poaching continued, and now since 2003 the sub species is nearly extinct. |

I can relate. While I was in hospital a staff member had 5 failed attempts to insert a cannula in my hand. By the fifth go his hand was shaking. I asked him if he was an anaethetist, he was an enrolled nurse (used to be called nursing aide), and had done a 2 week course in cannula insertion

I had a similar experience more years ago than I care to remember ............. donating blood, and a young doctor was unable to get the needle into the vein in my elbow making about 4 attempts. A nurse finally took over and succeeded. I never donated again, had a double scar inside my elbow for many years, and was quite put off women doctors for years! |
