Tesco generally shabby service in my experience. Wholeheartedly agree on hospital parking, a very lamentable practice.

If it's free, how does one police it in terms of people using it with no hospital reason for doing so.

Don't know. I didn't read the article. I just replied to Bristol's question about whether you need to pay for parking at UK supermarkets?

I initially thought it bizarre but in Canada it seems part and parcel of funding the hospital so I'm now thinking of it as a small price to pay for the benefits. (not that I have to pay, what with it being 5 minutes walk and I don't drive anyway)

I attend a major (teaching) hospital in Toronto downtown which has a small underground parking lot. If parking fees didn't exist there would be absolutely no way I could park there, because it would be full, probably 24/7. It is expensive (for me $25 a time) but I'm glad to pay it, given my disability. For those visiting patients, the hospital has excellent public transit access. Fortunately I only attend 2-3 times yearly now.

What about disabled parking places? They put put them right near the doors. If they want to stop people parking in them illegally they should put them at the very back corner of the car park.

You don't have to pay the private car parking tickets though from what I have been told but that's in the UK.
The place that gets me is Kingsgate Mall in Mt Pleasent. You get a few hours free but you are not allowed to go off site of the mall otherwise you can get a ticket. What if I want to grab something from No Fills in the mall and then pop across the road to Starbucks to grab a coffee...
After receiving a $50 city of Van fine as I violated a bylaw by parking somewhere after 7am in the morning (got to my car at 7.20am on a Sunday morning and received the ticket at 7.07am) I refuse to bring the vehicle downtown now - I'm not giving those *insert inappropriate word here* the satisfaction!
