When you go to the trouble of inviting friends for dinner and cooking a 3 course fancy shmancy meal (including chocolate mousse from scratch - a 5 step recipe) and one guest turns up an hour late and informs you they've already eaten - you have no idea how hard I had to bite my tongue. Then said guest dominates the conversation throughout and refuses to listen to anyone else.. sigh. Night ruined.

So that's where my mum went.

On the bright side, there was maybe some left over for breakfast?

What do you do with a dash cam in the front of your car? I can see it for off roading or if you were planning on reversing the trend and beating up a US policeman before he gets you

There was one general article about the GOP battling for House control for two more years, another about how the campaign went - both could have been written days ago - and another about line-ups at some voting stations.

There was one report about the actual voting that was taking place yesterday (the third of four stories on the front page, so not exactly a priority) and it was about as up to date as about 10.00 last night.

In fact, it was an Associated Press report published 9.00pm my time.

Would it be safe to say this person is no longer on your Christmas card list? He/She appears to be a rude, inconsiderate jerk.

I'd have been hacked off too. I would also not bother with them again. They are not your friends.

I find this behaviour to be quite common. Basically it is rude and to me it shows that the offender is not showing you with much respect and is a narcissist. Ditch them.

Quick question...I assume that the offender was aware that you were making a meal for everyone and that they knew the time to arrive.

Did they drink all of the booze you provided as well?

She (and you) would have been most welcome!
No, sadly she picked at it enough to need to throw away most of it and give the dog the chicken.

I'll make it for you any time! It was (though I say it myself) absolutely delicious! My (proper) friend said it was 'restaurant quality', which made me feel quite chuffed!

Dippy, I think more than meaning to be rude, but still damned annoying!

She is going through a very tough time right now, so I'm trying to be lenient in my thoughts, lol.

She did know, but as mentioned above is a bit dippy at times. She reckons the GPS took her miles out of the way and (despite being given very clear directions) she couldn't find the house. Bit strange when it's on a main road, right by a well known intersection - but what can you say?

No, she drank 1/3rd of the (very) large glass of wine poured and left lipstick all over the glass.

To be fair, as mentioned above, she is going through a very tough time at the moment - without going into detail - and she's at the end of her tether. I'm probably being a bit harsh when I complain, but it just ticked me off.

But... no, I won't be inviting her for dinner again!

I think even JS knows what chuffed means now.

I made something in the early days of visiting that made my (at the time, very cute) stepson say I should open a restaurant.

In later years they used to joke about me going on one of those chef shows on the telly. As if.

I use too many 'cheats' for that sort of stuff.

Cold (but cooked) cabbage is rather delicious.

+1. IMO cabbage is one of the great vegetables. Cooked with salt, pepper & butter. Raw as coleslaw, cooked into Bubble and Squeak, and, of course, just raw as a snack.

I was on a bus in South London a few days ago. It was crowded (morning rush hour). A young person offered me her seat.

Oh well.....
