Yep - minimum of 8 hours off between shifts, but could be more - check the paperwork that you were given/signed when you started (Employment Standards Act), hours between shifts is covered, as well as amount of non-working time required per week/two weeks (for example previous company I worked for required 24 hours of consecutive free time off per week, or 48 hours consecutive every two weeks (so if you worked both days of one weekend, you got both days of the next weekend off etc))
Because of the physical nature of your job, you might you have a longer period of time between shifts. Also what constitutes an 'emergency' should be clarified (ie, it's not an emergency if a crew is shortstaffed because one of the guys got drunk last night and couldn't wake up on time etc)
My guess is that someone filling out the schedule copy/pasted an afternoon shift into your time slot by accident.

Mind boggling to think of killing a person in terms of breaking records.

Why do developers think condo dwellers don't eat? They put in a built in fridge and freezer but not full size, size of a bar fridge and freezer which requires going to the store several times a week vs once a week, a pain really.
