I've never thought of them as being small in the photos I've seen (albeit owner condos as opposed to apartments) but now that you mention it, lack of freezer space might be an issue.

We have two fridge/freezers and three (not big ones) chest freezers. And another small fridge with tiny freezer compartment. :o

I daresay that we could put the fridge stuff all in one (though not the freezer things) but we'd be taking a lot out just to get something further back. That's a recipe for irritation or not bothering and then forgetting about it until you discover it's well past its date and you have to throw it out. Or even buying something you already have that's out of sight.

First world problems. :o

Those undercounter fridges are pretty standard in Britain...
But a water melon would occupy half the space. If you could get one in.

Having said all that, we could certainly manage with less but when it's stiflingly hot and humid out or a ton of snow/frostbite weather, it's nice to know you don't have to walk/wait for a bus or taxi because you're well stocked.

Those undercounter fridges are pretty standard in Britain and my huge fridge fre here is mostly half empty

In England it's easy to buy a liter box of OJ, in the US most OJ is 64 oz. A lot of the food items in the US come in larger portions. Not sure about Canada.

Freezer is certainly an issue as well, it's even smaller, so can't stock up on meat for example when on sale.

The place is so small, that there isn't really any viable place to put an extra freezer.

Joys of modern living... Entire living space is around 400sq feet excluding the patio which I don't consider living space.

No real kitchen, the kitchen consists of a counter with a sink, oven and stove, and the built in fridge which is also the living room and bedroom...

Also smaller fridges don't cost $1000+ . My neighbor told me yesterday her fridge cost $3200 . That's a lifetime supply of UK fridges.

You can get a full size fridge for under 1,000, no need to spend 3,200 unless you want to....

The fridge here is some German brand, looking online it retails in the US for $1500 so it's small but not cheap.

You can get a larger more traditional fridge cheaper at Costco, for under 1,000.

Sounds like the typical apartment I used to holiday in wherever in Greece I was. Small shower/toilet (used toilet paper in bin  not down the lav), sink, fridge, two hot plates one of which for tiny pan for water, bed. Dining room/living room was the balcony.

We bought a 9.9 cubic footer as our second fridge/freezer from Best Buy last month. $500 including taxes, removal of old one and free delivery.
I've seen it on sale at least three times in a few months. Perfect for a couple.

There's a very good store here with used appliances. I've had a washer, dryer and fridge from them for the rental place. And then there's Habitat - not the yuppie UK version

Not that this is any good for Js of course.

I can't work up any sympathy for you living in a small space. I loved my studio flat back in London and I was happy to buy food a few of times a week . The fridge was even smaller than an under the counter one. I shop every few days now and I've found I spend less that way.

We do get used to living in larger spaces though. Our last house back in the old country was exactly the same layout and size as the house my family had when we were kids. Plenty of room for a family then but now it's a one person sized space.

What annoys me is making space and then someone seeing it as a place to put something else. :frown:

Small space is okay, not ideal and annoying at times since there is no quiet place, so me having to sleep so early in the day dampens the wife's evening since there is no separate sleeping area.

For a single it wouldn't be bad. Just a bit tight for 2 people working such opposite schedules.

Or maybe there's an old unused soundproof booth from a discontinued quiz show.

That is what we do. She just gets annoyed since she does not always want to watch netflix or surf the net and wants to bake or clean and such but if she does that even with ear plugs I cannot sleep.

Very light sleeper I tend to be.
