I think it was mentioned on page 23 of the Calgary Sun just under the Ford dealers advert saying buy a new Ford F150 this weekend and get a free gun rack, stetson and a pair of cowboy boots.

Some people don't give a shit about quebec, especially out west. They don't give a shit so much that they can't stop posting in threads about it.

Tards.

On a Westjet 737 flying out of Calgary I saw (more than once) the flight attendants give the emergency exit and seatbelt lecture in English, then turn on a tape recording of the same procedure in French, turn the volume down so it wouldn't disturb anyone, and set about preparing for takeoff.
Most of us don't give a shit about Ontario more than we don't give a shit about Quebec. It's an equally undeserved bias.

Imagine if that happened in Toronto, telling an East Indian couple to converse in English.? Or walk up to a group of Chinese and tell them to speak English as they are in Canada.

I was under the impression that English, and French was the Canadian language.?
If that happened to me when I was speaking English, I'd reply to them in Parisian French that they don't even speak real French, so they shouldn't even call it French.

I've only ever been to Montreal, but have been there both for business and pleasure and most people seem to have no problem with me speaking english, and this is a slightly RP'd accent, to them. My wife and two of her female friends did have an issue in one restaurant not wanting them to come it <dirty quebec accent> "It iz full, we hav' no space fur youze" ,which was bollocks, as the place was empty. Think it was more to do with them being women than them not speaking french.

I know the odd word of french, but won't use it as I feel rude / silly not being able to converse properly in the language, so I don't bother and just use english.

So, you're suggesting that the Quebecois are both racist and that they're sexist? Not only that, but, while you speak in heavily accented Canadian, they should have perfect pronunciation of English.

Oi vey.

Start with the Lotus position!

Under Windows hold down ALT while typing the appropriate number code on your numeric keypad to create characters with circumflex accent marks.
For Windows, the number codes for the upper case letters are:
 0194
Ê 0202
ÃŽ 0206
Ô 0212
Û 0219

Hope these help.

The last time I was in Montreal I asked some guy, sporting a fleur de lys on his toque, for directions and he immediately replied in French that he would only answer in that language. When I used to live there I often experienced this. While speaking English with a friend in a restaurant on St Denis blvd I was made to feel very uncomfortable until I hushed up. I was refused service in English in a Federal job center as well (supposed to be bilingual). I could go on.

You could have been slightly more discerning in your choice. That's a bit like someone from the Punjab asking directions from a bloke sporting an England shirt and walking hs pitbull. How would you respond if you were in the middle of London and a French person came up to you and started speaking french to you. You would think it a bit cheeky.

My friends on a day trip to France had a similar experience in a bar when they started straight out in english with the staff without even trying to speak the language.

Protocol is either to start out in poor french and let them switch to English or ask them if they speak English before just assuming. try saying "Parlez-vous anglais?" 9 times out of 10 they will try and help you.

Is London known for being part of a bi-lingual country?
