Quebec Racists

Any one seen the YT video with the two tourists conversing in English, when a French speaking Quebec Racist told then to speak French?

Imagine if that happened in Toronto, telling an East Indian couple to converse in English.? Or walk up to a group of Chinese and tell them to speak English as they are in Canada.

I was under the impression that English, and French was the Canadian language.?

I think one resident from Quebec has defined this as being "Integrate or f**K off". Apparently, that is acceptable behaviour in Quebec for residents. One wonders if it is appropriate behaviour against tourists.

Re: Quebec Racists

French is the official language of Quebec. A quick wiki through their charter shows that English must be provided in most federal matters, (as French must be in the rest of Canada), and there are many restrictions on commercial and public use of text, and on use of French in the workplace, there is no law against speaking English on the street. They just happened to video a drunk/racist/lunatic/hobo or whatever. My experience in Montreal was that they wanted me to at least make an effort to speak French, and when they saw how poor my highschool French was, they spoke English willingly. Some things are easy - 'le smoked meat', svp.

All very simple really....stay clear of Quebec if at all possible....works for me. When travelling throughout 'Canada'....I like to be able to read the road and information signs....not too much to ask...other than in Quebec! I don't have French at all...just one of those things, which makes life difficult as in when travelling through many parts of that Provence....so I stay clear if at all possible.

I am just wondering how two people arguing about whether to speak in English or French has anything to do with racism.

I guess it depends on your definition of racism or which dictionary version you choose to read and then see if this situation applies.
The same can be argued about 2 x applicants applying for a job and the one who doesnt get it claims racism.

I think you will find that all dictionaries will make some passing reference to prejudice based on race, unless Im missing something:confused:

Its a prejudice based on dialect. <Insert scouse joke here>

I can't, I'm on my iPhone, can some one else do it please. I've only heard the audio track on 640am and they said it was a racist action on the part of the Quebec meet and greeter.

Yes all the definitions I read basically say that.
So based on that a Scouser can be racist to a Geordie then?

My (French) Quebecker friend tells me that he and his wife have been treated very badly by French people in France. Kinda like the way we look down our noses at our colonial cousins.

It's funny to hear him going on about "les f***ing French ba$tards"

I had a francophone father-in-law, he was violently prejudiced against people living in Quebec, he thought they were all Petainists. I thought that a bit rich for a man who lived in Switzerland.

I did find it rather fascinating that the attempted assassination of the premier-elect of Québec was all over the news in the US but barely mentioned here in Alberta.

Which gives you an idea of how much of a shit people in western Canada give about Québec.

Isnt that fair enough given that the PQ exists to do the same thing in what they see as Quebecs interest?

The difference is that the Reform parts became the government under the guise of Harpers Conservatives
