It's ironic that the SNP were against the referendum at the time, but now, given the chaos that has ensued, are better able to pursue their own objective of Scottish independence.

It shows how misguided the whole sorry adventure has been. The ideas of leaving the CU and even the SM were around in the minds of Eurosceptics well before the referendum. These were not articulated as they are less palatable than having one's cake and eating it too.

We've witnessed invective and protestations about the Johnson stance, but I think that a great many of those involved simply don't understand the mindset of those who'll be voting at the upcoming election and live in a different UK to those who'll matter.
Whatever arguments are put, there will be a general belief that the referendum result has been betrayed and whilst some will have changed their minds, a great many others just want it over and done with and view the EU as a parasite feeding off the UK.
Thatcher became a hated woman in some circles but she was admired for arguing her case and appearing strong. Boris is in the throws of casting aside his clown image and adopting a Churchillian stance against the hated EU Commission.
Don't underestimate this pro brexit theme, and don't expect lifetime labour supporters to vote labour.
Boris might be an upper class twit, but I think he's one with his finger on the pulse of the nation.
This election won't be fought on party lines.

i tend to agree....the population and the result of the referendum have been betrayed by the self interest of politicians of all parties in the house.....which may ultimately swing things the way of Boris. As for me...go for it Boris!

Mr. Johnson seems somewhat hampered by the fact that even Conservative MPs are unwilling to believe a word he says; they don't trust him not to agree to an election date and then switch it. Plastering lies on the side of busses and mendacious kipper waving will do that for you. WTF has happened to Conservatives? Once the basically honourable purveyours of economically sound, socially cruel, policies, they now offer spivs the like Johnson and Trump who will wreck their economies and still piss on the poor. The only solace is that Johnson, at least, seems set to destroy his party,

Yes. I do wonder if Cummings is as influential as he's potrayed in the press or if he's Johnson's sacrifical lamb; it may have been a cracking wheeze to hire a badly dressed man, mean of spirit, so as to have someone to blame and dump.

A splintered Parliament with no single party, nor coalition of two parties, having a workable majority, something like one sees under proportional representation. We might call it the European model.
