Im not saying we should be FORCED to do anything. If you really want to smoke, then go ahead. But pay for your health care in advance, and price new (young) smokers out of the market. Maybe you will have to make some sacrifices if you really want to smoke, but cant afford it, so make that choice.

Eating healthy is probably cheaper than eating fatty processed foods. An apple costs 50c, a big mac a couple of bucks. Make it a bigger differential, and more people will chose healthy, but still have the choice to undulge in some A&W onion rings once in a while.

I see no harm is making heavy consumers of "bad" things pay more for the privilege. If they want to pay to do it, then fine, but maybe it will price some kids out of the market, so wheres the harm.

But where we must be vigilant is where its political interference for no other reason that for political reasons. Its a thin line and vigilance is needed

Why on earth shouldnt you be proud of the nation you were born into? There is much to be proud of in the UKs history, as well as a fair amount to be embarassed about too.

Lets not forget that the British empire was the single largest empire ever in the history of the world and in 1921, around the time when the swastika was adopted in germany by the Nazis, roughly a quarter of the worlds population and a quarter of the worlds land were controlled by the British, and, even now that legacy is pretty widespread.

I dont know the numbers, but that probably beats the number of hindus and budhists, but as you know that was not really the point.

I cant imagine that protestant Germany in the 20s was overrun by huge numbers of outraged budists and hindus protesting at the subversion of their symbol because Hitler has some idea that it was linked to an Aryrian superiority... and at least Hitler had the decency to incorprate it into his own new flag design, rather than just take over an existing one.
