I don't buy the 6-pack all the time. I buy it when I'm having company and need to make a large salad, or if I plan to make meal-sized salads for dinner (shrimp caesar, burrito salad, etc). The heads are a bit smaller than average. The brand is usually Andy Boy, which the grocery stores sell in 3-packs.

I also like the fact that they have a low turnover of staff...this because they treat them well.
Agree completely. Costco is great. I also like their clothing selection, especially for babies/toddlers/kids. The prices are great and it's all brand-name. I also really like their house brand, Pekkle, of kids clothing. Their Tuff Athletics line for adults is also great.

Yes, they're not the same size as single ones. We often get the 3-packs. We had salad and chicken wings for four the other day, using almost two lettuceseseses in one go.

Yep. My husband and I will eat one head just the two of us. A 6-pack will generally stay good for 1-2 weeks depending, so it's not that difficult to get through a 6-pack if we are having a salad-heavy week.

I liked Costco a lot when I was feeding a family of 5 & working full time outside the home, living in the back-of-nowhere & had a big freezer.

Now that I'm (mostly) single, freelancing/self-employed, living in semi-civilisation, the cost of Costco membership isn't worth it to me. Local supermarket/food stores (5 within walking distance) specials are as good as or better.

could it be that you have too much disposable income compared to other folks on BE?

Sobey, Loblaw & Metro banners are unionised here in Qc, mostly. And, mostly, pay a little bit better than non-unionised similar workplaces. My local Walmart pays better than most WMs, as it's in competition with the aforementioned unionised banners.

That's my impression...admittedly never having set foot in a costco.
(although I do wonder about the cheese selection )

I'm a Costco devotee. Generally, if we use a product, it doesn't have to be fresh, and Costco sells it, then it comes from Costco. Not cheese though, Costco is about volume and cheeses that sell in huge volume are not the best cheeses.

And here Super Store which is Loblaws owned pays min wage where Wal Mart and just about every other US big box store that has no union pays more.

Odd world when union jobs are paying min wage.

However, don't they sell much better cheese than the flat slabs but at flat slab like prices?

Like that Baldersons 750g block my stepdaughter got the other day for $11.

They sell Balderson's, yes, also Collier's. Aren't they both "flat slab" cheeses?

Why do you think that? One has to start somewhere...

Unionised jobs here, even at close to minimum wage, include access to benefits that non-unionised jobs don't: enhanced healthcare; job protection; education/study for free/low cost; incremental fixed pay rises; etc...

I was reminded earlier in another thread of your "snootiness" for cheese (Alan, I believe) but even you have admitted previously that they are better.
