Which reminds me of that chicken in cream sauce that M and S used to sell. Haven't had that for years.

my mum used to do catering for weddings (about as upscale as council estate weddings ever got) - the standard vol au vent fillings were prawn cocktail, that chicken in a white sauce (not MandS though!) and egg mayo.

Sausage rolls, pork pie, finger rolls with salmon spread, egg mayo and ham, chicken legs, garlic bread and trifle.

God rest her soul she thought this was a decent spread.

Wasn't til I started working for a very posh hotel that I realised cheese and pineapples shoved in a silver spud weren't really the done thing...

Dya think Kate will have a cheesy pineapple hedghog?

She'd be right. Who'd not want to eat that? I hope the next do I go to has this kind of stuff - sounds great.

That is a decent spread although you can keep the garlic bread.

I invited the neighbours round at New Year and gave a very retro spread. Cheese and pineapple cubes- no foil spud though, ham and cheese pinwheels, devilled eggs, sausage rolls, and fat men's willies.

Twas very nice.

Garlic bread in trifle is wrong

Come to think of it, standard Canadian orange cheese will be perfect with pineapple chunks on a cocktail stick. Maybe we should send them a gift from the colonies.

I think the tent in the gardens befits the occasion, a boat is a little too nouveau riche
