Re: The Occupy Uprising....
Some of the occupier kids likely got to rub shoulders with real down and outers for the first time in their lives so some good may of come from it. In their zeal to teach others about the gap between rich and poor I hope they learned from the experience. I read on twitter Regina police dismantled what was left of the camp in Victoria Park about an hour ago. In 1935 the RCMP attacked a rally in market square and rode the on-to-Ottawa trekkers down with horses and billy clubs downtown and a couple of other places, bodies were quietly disposed of and order restored. They don't have horses at the training academy here now so city police had to take down the tents. Actually, I think one horse could of done it here.

Re: The Occupy Uprising....
One wonders how many if the posters on here that appear to "support" what they are doing have become involved in any way: donating food, time and effort, even spent a day/night in a tent? Doers as opposed to talkers!

Not that I'm a great supporter of those dewy eyed rich kids, they want to give the park back to the homeless, people who really need them benches. |

Not at all.....they are a blight on the landscape....time to call it quits...authorities should continue as they are in using the law....and escalate enforcement of the law as required .......The more fanatical of their 'anarchistic' number may require such an escalation of force on the part of the authorities as has been shown elsewhere (Seattle)...time will tell...Fire hoses/water cannon always an option....and a good sanitation exercise of the 'great unwashed' compliments of the tax payer. I believe the authorities lost the initiative some time ago by allowing them to set up camps in the first place and subsequently remain...and as a consequence the level force required to move them now will be all the greater. This was a given, particularly as the original protest has in many cases been hijacked by the more extreme elements of society. Peaceful protest is one thing...but allowing the setting up of 'tented villages' in public parks, private property etc was a recipe for confrontation eventually.....better to have put the lid on it early doors than have to deal with it now.... Just an opinion..... Start the fire trucks, check the water tanks as required, a pretty pink dye might be appropriate........wagons roll!..... |

Re: The Occupy Uprising....
I'm an armchair supporter - nothing wrong with agreeing with people doing something. For comparison, I don't really think killing whales is a very nice thing to do, but that doesn't mean that unless I get on a boat and follow japanese whaling ships around I'm a hypocrite.
Besides, Canadian movement aside, it's a misconception that the OWS protests in the US are somehow anti-capitalist or anti-corporation. I see the "laugh at them for being anti-corporation and then using their ipads in starbucks" meme a lot, but don't get sucked into the fox news narrative. There's a reason why they aren't protesting outside microsoft, apple, starbucks, or even macdonalds - it's because those companies haven't robbed tax-payers blind. Wall street on the other hand is full of demonstrably corrupt thieves. Edit: I do think occupy vancouver is only helping to discredit the OWS movement. They have a right to protest, but I kind of wish they'd go shut up with their idealist impractical nonsense. |

I've seen 'Inside Job' and understand that there is much wrong with our financial institutions and how they conduct business but the fact that you conclude that this is about the 'overall state of our nations' just demonstrates to me how utterly unfocused, incoherent, unrealistic and non-productive this 'protest' has been. It's a shame because the '99%' thing had promise. Problem was 24% effort. |

It's just that I'm disappointed with how this has all played out. I think the Occupy movement has been sadly outflanked by some of the authorities it aimed to pull down. Galling but true. |

Yes, you can get goose and duck fat at Oyama Sausage place in GI market. The goose stuff sells out quick before Christmas. It's quite spendy but as you're recession proof it shouldn't be a problem. ;)

Re: The Occupy Uprising....
I've got a lot of aquantainces and a few good friends who are part of the Occupy Toronto movement. I think that some of the folk have good intentions, but camping in a park, hooping and practicing poi doesn't really cut it as far as I'm concerned.
Via Facebook, I've been invited to any number of Occupy Toronto events, mostly it's fair to say organised around protecting the park and preventing their eviction. When I ask what they're specifically campaigning about, and what they propose in the place of what they don't like, I'm met with a deafening silence. Oh, and the suggestion that I come to the park to find out.... Why should I waste my time visiting a ton of sketched out hippies who are unable to articulate what they want; other than they think that life is not fair. Personally I figured that out early on. I'm developing a distinct dislike of the protest in general, as to me it smacks of the kind of entitlement and expectations that a lot of people seem to have these days. To make positive changes you need to do a little bit more than sitting on your arse in a park for a few months. I've actively demonstrated against things that I felt strongly in the past. None of those demonstrations included promoting the use of illegal drugs, anti social behaviour or not needing to engage in debate with people that you need to influence. If I sound angry, I am, because these work shy fops have put the cause of social equality back several years as far as I'm concerned. |

Re: The Occupy Uprising....
This time of year the big Canada Geese, (at least the ones out here), have a lump of pure white fat in the abdomen nearly the size of a tennis ball. Ask your friends to save them when they clean geese. Rendered down it's great for making shortbread.
