The "manual gear" thing seems to be a very British obsession.

Re: Manual or Automatic in Canada?
I prefer automatics now, long drives as it was for a US road trip a few times, and when I took one through the Rockies from Vancouver, it was far easier and less tiring in an automatic. My first car had auto drive, so once I was at the max speed limit on a highway I hit the button and took foot off pedal and relaxed and steered while the car did the rest.
Some Canadians prefer manual as a transmission is costly to replace, though I never had any problems with mine in the two cars I had at different times. |

Heaven forbid you want to see them on roundabouts, they don't have a clue and roundabouts are very rare over here too.

I've got both, auto for traffic and a standard for track and fun use.

Standard or Auto - I go out of my way to buy standard, although it is becoming much harder to find. Just got a Nissan Frontier Standard, but the dealer would not get it in until I gave him a hefty deposit. Perosnally I find standards give much more control of the vehicle in snow, ice and muddy conditions. When I went to buy a domestic truck, auto transmission was an 'optional' charge. No problem I tell the dealer, I want standard anyway, 'but they are not available in standard' the dealer tells me, so why the hell would they advertise auto as an optional charge, it's not exactly optional. |
Re: Manual or Automatic in Canada?
I have to say after spending a hellish 6 days in the traffic in and around LA I would want an automatic and wouldn't even consider a manual, I wouldn't even consider living and having to commute in anything like the traffic in LA either - not for any amount of money.

Nope not enough - seriously I would rather live my life here than be rich there, my version of hell on earth.
You're one strange lady. Youd have just come home with 500k in your pocket ;) Count me in. |

Bought a manual Mazda 3 Sport a year ago once I got fed up of driving my wife's automatic. Much more fun :o)
On the subject of cars, how many people have the whole Union Jack license plate thing going on? There are a few of us around Red Deer. |

So you'd turn down $50M per year, paid on a weekly basis, with no contractual length of period?

If it meant that I had to live and drive in LA and the surrounding area then no I wouldn't want the money, I really wouldn't life would just be too miserable. If I only had to spend a week a year and fly in by helicopter and not travel on the roads then yes maybe. But then with the poverty and hopelessness I saw I don't know how I could do it. It is the worst place I have ever visited, no pretty bits even Beverly Hills wasn't that nice - I've seen nicer.

You know you would  |
