How about one of these...?

Were you offering to help out with the monthly payments? Thats terribly nice of you.

Why are there no affordable 4 seat convertibles other than the dreadful chrysler?. Like a mustang, but with another 6 inches of legroom in the back to make it a real 4 seater.

We have one of each, manual and automatic that is. The automatic also has gears somehow which means you can push the stick backwards and forwards and also wiggle it to the side if you want gears.

I wouldn't be without AC in the car. Far too noisy with the windows open.

Ive had cars here where the AC didnt work and I survived, although its not great in or after a thunderstom when the windows are closed.

Ive never had one that didnt have it originally though.

Why does the government subsidise your hydro bill?

Automatic/Air Con/Winter tyres/Block Heater are the essentials......

Honda have my vehicle for the day. I'm looking forward to my "Know Your Vehicle(TM)" report later so I can better understand my vehicle's "performance and health" and stay on top of my vehicle's "wellness".

I've not used AC in a car (in Canada, it's different in warm places). I'm a little baffled that after enduring months of cold you people should want to be cold in the summer too. Still, each to their own.

People who don't own shagged out VW Beetles have heaters in their cars for when it's cold.

The government in its infinite wisdom is, for a couple of years, softening the blow of a move to "Real" hydro costs that cover required infrastructure updates by paying 10% of the bill using taxpayers money that is already coming out of our pockets...

Supposed to be phased out next year I think...

Id say where I am none of those essentials are truly essential, but winter tires do make a difference, and air con is nice to have. Automatic is personal preference and block heater is a waste of money in Ontario.

Had my civic since March, nearly 13k km and still 30% of the oil life left, so Ive not encountered all that bollox yet:) Dont remember it on the old one though...

Then I agree, it's a struggle to find a nice motor at a sensible price. An older BMW might work (aside from budget the new ones are just too ugly) or, if you don't mind slightly squished kids, a Mustang. IME, they'll gladly live with the squishing to be in the "cool" car.

The Beetle has a good heater but the windows don't close fully in the winter; a design feature, not because the car's old, so much of the heat is wasted.

I concede I've driven the car into the ground, five years seems a long time for a VW, but the idea that VW have quality design and engineering seems laughable to me now. Just today I went over a speed bump and the doors popped open, that's not something that should happen in a mid-sixties Triumph Herald. Lord knows how such a flexi-car would fare in a big accident.

Still, I chose it. I could have had another Mustang had I not been scared of RWD in deep snow country. I pay now for being a wimp then.

Standard or Auto - I go out of my way to buy standard, although it is becoming much harder to find. Just got a Nissan Frontier Standard, but the dealer would not get it in until I gave him a hefty deposit. Personally I find standards give much more control of the vehicle in snow, ice and muddy conditions.

When I went to buy a domestic truck, auto transmission was an 'optional' charge. No problem I tell the dealer, I want standard anyway, 'but they are not available in standard' the dealer tells me, so why the hell would they advertise auto as an optional charge, it's not exactly optional.

I didn't have a problem in the snow with the Nissan Sentra SE, went up Cypress mountain regularly to ski, Whistler too before the Olympics made it more pricey, with 4 season tyres on (or is that tires now as they spell it in Canada)

I must admit I wanted a manual car to start with but couldn't find them easily. After a few long road trips I was glad I had an automatic, and cruise control in one so I could set the speed and take all feet off the pedals. It would have been highly tiring if I drove that far in a manual.

No car currently in the GTA, Alberta for me next year so I am biding my time until then to get the next car. I can't stand the bad drivers in this area as it is let alone have to share the road with any of them.

I need some idea of how much car insurance costs per month for a small car or hatchback, or estate, (with 7-8 years no claims proof up to last year when I last owned a car). Anyone??? Clean license.

The delay was likely too short.

If the proof is from the UK, forget it. You'll be shocked anyway. Fasten your putative seatbelt.

What makes you think the drivers are any different in Alberta? They are not. The trucks are bigger making them feel invincible, I regularly see people speed up to drive through red lights, talking and texting and speeding and drink driving - my daughter is going for her licence and it scares me that she will be sharing the roads with these morons. There is barely a week that goes by without someone dying on the roads around here.
