Democracy is a strange mistress. I say mistress because men would never act in this way, we can be far worse as Trump is demonstrating.
But we are where we are. I didn't care for the outcome and would have preferred a May landslide but we move on, the past is in the past.
The northern irish political system has bred some wierd philosophies, it will be interesting to see just how many find their way into the UK manner of governing, let's hope it's more interesting than it is disturbing. Which is why the UK will end up in a quasi-EEA arrangement like the Swiss have, but with some sort of immigration quota which is quite high so the EU and the UK can sell it to their respective constituencies.

But they won't be in the EU, they won't technically even be in the EEA, which is how the Swiss swung it domestically.

Yes they'll have to follow European law but technically it is possible as an EEA member to refuse to implement a Directive, Norway has done it once.

I just cannot see any other way this is going to happen, the UK has got to tick those two boxes and anything more complicated than that is going to lead to the Govt. imploding. Yeah there are hardcore Brexiteers who will be unhappy but the SNP and the Liberals will be fine with it and so will Labour most likely, so it will sail through Parliament. And the DUP and Sinn Fein will love it because it means no hard border in Ireland.

In reality we all know that basically nothing has changed, because the flood of people into the UK was caused by the financial crisis so whatever quota is agreed is unlikely to be hit. The UK will still be able to make it's feeling known on European legislation the same way as the Norwegians and the Swiss do it and the EU will have to take notice because otherwise the UK might not follow the Directive.

In essence, nothing will change, but technically, quite a lot has, welcome to politics.

The DUP has often aligned itself with The Tory Party.

DUP campaigned on a BREXIT stance, they now want an open border with the republic, lucky really because that is what is likely to happen.

Many MP will be put on life support machines for the next two years to prevent them popping their clogs and triggering a by election.

The result of the election is the natural reaction to anti-BREXIT losing the vote, well we lost, I'll waste my vote on liberal or Labour Party. I think many are relieved that the wasted vote cast, didn't lead to Labour sharing power with SNP.

I agree. Time and politics are the issue here. Too much time has already been wasted that will permit a reasoned negotiation. A pragmatic approach will be the one adopted after the GE but too many fringe groups now have the ability to demand their slice of a very small cake.

I disagree. The chaos and panic that's exploded within the conservative party has ensured that May now wears a target and those with ambition are lining her up in their sights. It will come to a head when the Brexit talks time out and she'll either resign or be thrown out when the outcome for Brexit becomes apparent and whatever happens she will be held responsible. I suspect that noone else wants to be where she is right now... but later...

Difficulties now with the timing of the Queen's speech.

Although it is now written on thick goatskin parchment, this also needs several days to dry, meaning a speech cannot be amended at the last minute.

Maybe they can declare a state of emergency and print it using a Sinclair ZX Spectrum.

No, it's politically impossible, especially now they've triggered Article 50. Both the Tories and Labour are in favour of Brexit so to U-turn now would destroy them politically. At the end of the day 52% of people voted for it.

I think a lot of people have moved on but clearly the General Election showed that a lot of remainers are still very unhappy about it, especially younger people.

The rational interpretation of those two votes is that people want the UK to leave the EU but to stay in the common market.

So it's going to be some EFTA/EEA-ish result which it probably always would have been, but taken a lot longer to get to.

The key issue is immigration, legally the UK can't impose immigration controls on EU nationals without a treaty change, I think at some point though the EU will agree to some sort of minor treaty change provided the quota is pretty high.

If not, the issue will just keep rumbling on forever and I think even the EU sees the logic of putting it to bed as rapidly as possible. The pressure to get it resolved quickly is going to be enormous on both sides.
