Well, to be fair, it was until 1905.

William Wallace and Robert the Bruce were celtic were they? Inhabitants of Shetland are celtic are they? Britons were celtic.

Who are the Celts?
There is a lot of controversy about this question but the answer is really very simple. A Celt is anyone who speaks or spoke a Celtic language. However, we should be very careful not to think of the Celts as a distinct race. The Celtic language came to Ireland from Central Europe but there is no evidence that it was brought by large numbers of people. Our Celtic language and culture came from Central Europe but our ancestors did not.
Today the so-called Six Celtic Nations include Alba, Éire, Cymru, Mannin, Breizh and Kernow, or Scotland, Ireland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Brittany and Cornwall respectively. The Celtic languages of these nations are: an Gháidhlig (Scots Gaelic), Gaeilge (Irish), Cymraeg (Wales), Gaelg (Manx), Brezhoneg (Breton) agus Kernewek (Cornish).

Apart from the ambiguous label "Celtic" this is correct. The English people are a far more mixed race following Roman and successive invasions. Having said that, it's an emotional argument to be making in favour of independence, particularly now that Scotland too is becoming multi-ethnic.

So then surely you would prefer a Celtic Union rather than independent Scotland...

Anything would be better than a one-sided union but the point Im trying get over is Scotland is NOT a region or a state or a province .Once you get your head around that it will(or should) be easier to understand why alot of scots want independence!:)

I have no idea whether or not it will be good for Scotland, but I think the rest of the UK will benefit greatly from not having to liaten to the Scots moaning about the English ever again. With proper passport controls at Berwick, a requirement since Scotland will be forced to join Schengen assuming it gets back into the EU, Gordon Brown, Alex Salmond, Jon Reid, The Krankies etc can all be kept firmly north of the border.

If it is so one-sided how is it that Scottish MP's can vote on legislation that does not affect Scotland..

Over 80% of the population lives in England. The union is obviously going to reflect that.

I have also never referred to Scotland as a region or a state or a province. I merely drew parallels to representations of smaller populations within a larger political entity. After all, Scotland is a part of a larger political entity.. the UK.
