So being half English half Scottish would make me mixed race then? If the little scotlanders win then good luck to them but don't expect anyone else to go long with the exceptionalism narrative.

Yep.Its a union but a very one sided union. The UK politcal system is broken. It doesnt matter what you vote in Scotland at a general election it all comes done to what the middle and upper class in south England and parts of Midlands want to vote for ,tory or "new" Labour who should really be named new tory.I used to vote Labour but I learned long ago it was a waste of time .I lived in England for 11yrs and found out alot of people dont give a shit about Scotland in fact they think the scots and Scotland are a joke!We need to change it and I believe the only way to do that is with independence.

Well I think its very sad that hundreds of years of a successful union will be broken up for nothing....Scotland or the remainder of the UK wont be better off. Your thinking with your heart not your head.

In a democratic government its rare that everyone is happy, as other posters have said on here, many of English and Welsh people are unhappy with the government too, breaking the country up into smaller bits isn't going to solve that, only weaken it for both sides more, sadly more for Scotland, so if you think things arnt good now, I fear they will be a lot worse post independence....it just cannot work...it isn't feasible.

Infact I have a couple of Scottish friends they are proud Scots , but they don't want the break up, they have said that they feel many of the Scottish people don't either, when it comes down to it, just the ones that are allowing this Salmond clown to tug at the emotional heart strings. They said even though they don't feel suitablely represented by the government at times, independence isn't going to change that only weaken the cause further and they would prefer to look at the big picture, to hear that from a couple of proud Scots made me feel good.

I hope we wake the morning of September 19th to find the United Kingdom is still intact.

in quebec we have been through this nonsense twice and the last time it was an extremely close call

if most scots decide to stay put then count on more nonsense 20 years hence

it never goes way

I understand that Scotland has it's own culture, heritage, history and language. Not once did I deny that.. not too sure you can call Scots a race though. Does that mean that independence would be best for Scotland? Of course not. The world is a lot different now to what it was back in ancient times.

If you want to start talking Ancient history, then why don't we break the UK up into the tribal areas they once were before the Roman invasion?

I'm so pleased for you all that you have decided that (in the prospect of success) Scottish independence is going to fail.

So you are all psychic ey?

Why do you give a **** anyway?

Well then, you should stop wasting your time trying to convince the Scots on here that can't vote and maybe start trying to convince your sister

My sister, her husband (actually she has had two, both resident in Scotland) and her children can decide for themselves (I think the grandchildren are too young to have a vote, the eldest is I think about 6).

I believe that people born in Scotland but resident abroad can also vote, but perhaps that's confined to EU residents? There was a post about this well upthread but I don't care enough to scroll back.

If, though, it's true that Scots resident in Canada (for example) can't vote, why are you cluttering up this forum with the whole thing in the first place?

Only residents of Scotland can vote in the referendum (Scottish or not!).
