One thing that surprises me is, given the number of Brits in Canada, that there isn't more of a supply of British food. I mean it's not that Canada substitutes it with anything worth eating.
The British Stores are few and far between, really over-priced and the goods are sometimes beyond their sell-by dates. I'm amazed that there isn't a British food aisle in most supermarkets, especially as just about every other immigrant nation is represented.
Take British tea for example. I only just discovered you can buy normal loose leaf tea in Canadian Superstore. Given this is part of our staple diet, and there's masses of tea swilling brits over in Canada, it's incredible that other supermarkets haven't latched onto the potential. English breakfast teabags are generally highly expensive or taste like nats piss.

Yeah they stick it in bakery sometimes. Perhaps as it's a yeast extract. I mean, spread it on toast. What were we thinking?!

Orange Pekoe is a classification not a variety of tea
For those of you who don't know this, wikipedia says:
* OP - Orange Pekoe - Main grade in tea production. Can consist of long wiry leaf without tips.
* OP sup - Orange Pekoe Superior - Primarily from Indonesia. Similar to OP.
* F OP - Flowery Orange Pekoe - High-quality tea with a long leaf and few tips. Considered the second grade in Assam, Dooars, and Bangladesh teas, but the first grade in China
* F OP1 - Flowery Orange Pekoe First Grade Leaves - As above but with only the highest quality leaves in the F.O.P classification
* GF OP1 - Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe First Grade Leaves- Higher proportion of tip than FOP Top grade in Milima and Marinyn regions; Uncommon in Assam and Darjeeling.
* TGF OP - Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe - Tea with the highest proportion of tip; Main grade in Darjeeling and Assam.
* TGF OP1 - Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe - As above, but with only the highest quality leave in the T.G.F.O.P classification
* FTGF OP - Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe - Highest quality grade. Often hand processed and produced at only the best plantations. Roughly one quarter tips.
It's all very well knowing that one's tea is a long wiry leaf without tips but one would like to know if it's Assam, or Ceylon, or Darjeeling.

I can't remember which poster it was (in the thread way back when that 4bells mentioned) but it was with a remarkable quantity of vitriol that somebody insisted Orange Pekoe tasted different to the "normal" Tetley tea you get in the UK because it was a different variety.

Thank you for enlightening the unenlightened and explaining the joke to the humourless
