That's strange I seem to remember West Ham fan's recently being repremanded for chanting "I'd rather be a paki than a jew".

Infact wasn't there that big cup tie full of violence involving West Ham just a couple of seasons ago???

I can pull of plenty more examples with very little effort or thought at all.

When was the last time you went to a Millwall game and sat in their end in your West Ham shirt???

There is plenty of violence in the lower levels just because it has been priced out of the Premiership does not mean it doesn't happen further down. Go to a Reading or a Cardiff game you'll see plenty.

Thank you for your input. When you are finished rolling on the floor you can get back in your arm chair.

Amusing that, because it holds true in pretty much all the other team sports in MA...with the one exception being when the Red Sox play the NY Yankees :D

I don't think I fancy the idea of going to see Oakland play wearing Giants colours either.

Apparently Oakland Raiders versus the San Francisco 49ers can also be a "little" intimidating.

And how many games did you go to on a regular basis???

Also how many NHL games do you have lots of away fans in attendance???

And how often have i seen players and fans having a punch up in the stands at ice hockey matches? as well as players having a punch up on the ice??

And how many Football matches are there in the UK each season across all the leagues..and if trouble at football is such a problem why is it the most popular spector sport in the world???

Oh and for your info i used to live near the new den and i have sat in the millwall 'end' as you put it when west ham played there, as my best friend was a millwall fan...also i dont need to wear a west ham shirt nor have i ever done so.

They used to sing that about John Fashanu when he was at Wimbledon (sadly, but there you go - I agree with JamesM). Somehow, the fact that Warney's shagging Liz Hurley reduces the impact of this one in the cricket world somewhat. :D

Comparing hockey culture in Canada with football culture in the UK is like comparing chalk with cheese. I've spent a lot of time on the terraces in London and elsewhere watching football and the racism and homophobia is just incredible. It's getting worse too. I took my 5 year old to his first match between Leyton Orient and Bristol City last year before we came here and some of the chants were terrible; there was also a fight in our stand at half time (some might say good value for your £15)!

There just isn't that kind of atmosphere at a hockey game in Canada, though the fighting on the ice is just as stupid. On balance, though, given the disgusting, debased chants that I've heard over the years I would easily rather take my 6 year old to a hockey game here than a football game there - and that makes me sad to admit it.

Who cares..........

This is a hockey thread and I made a comment that I thought that Boston fans were the best in the NHL.

No one cares about West Ham or how many games there are in the football season as this is a hockey thread.....

You started banging on about Football fans being better at all levels and then when I pointed out that football fans do racist chants and are associated with violence through out the world- you didn't like the facts.

Lastly when you go to a hockey game you can go and urinate in a clean toilet and then wash your hands with soap after. You don't get that at any professional football club in the UK and certainly not at a club as skanky as West Ham.

But get back on subject.......

I still hate them. Have I said that recently? Timmy Thomas has eaten all of the pies which certainly helps him keep those pucks out. Damn them and their britches.

Boston will win it 4-2, sadly.

I totally agree.

I'm a huge football fan and it's my main love probably on a par with beer and just ahead of women. My university dissertation was on football.........

I have played and watched all my life. I have been to Old Trafford, White Hart Lane, Hillsborough, Ewood Park, Villa Park, Craven Cottage, Elm Park, The Madejski, Aldershot Rec...........and quite a few more......

But if I had children I wouldn't want them anywhere near any of those places until they were teenagers.

Football is a great game and I love chanting and the creativity of the chanting- but it still needs to clean up. And it may lose some of it's appeal but it needs to move with the times.
